To think 14 degrees is too cold for a home?

Especially with two small children in it? I'm about to call the property manager and complain that our heating isn't working properly (had it on non-stop for 3 days and the temperature in the house hasn't risen above 15). I'm not just being a wuss am I?

No! I've set mine to 18 and it still feels cool.

Is it an ancient central heating system? Is it even central heating?

15 degrees at full whack is very low.

How is the temperature regulated? You don't want a call out charge, only to find you've mucked up the thermostat

Mine goes down to 9 degrees in the depths of winter so 14 degrees is ok by me. But extra jumpers hot flushes help to keep it at bay!

14 is manageable but not good at all if the heatings on! Definitely something wrong there.

We have ours at fifteen and honestly couldn't afford to have it any higher. We only have the heating on for an hour a day unless it goes below freezing, as well.

No DC, just two adults. Using a lot of hot water bottles, wearing big knit jumpers and having a sofa duvet helps a lot!

if it were an office /workplace where most work is done seated it has to be 16C within an hour of starting below 16c in a office type workplace is illegal

14C is too cold as an average temp for a house, I'm not saying if a bedroom drops to 14 at 3am it is a big worry but if you can't get temp above that it is worrying and definitely a faulty heating system, an old or very young or ill person would be at risk at that temperature

We can't have ours on all the time (house too big and heating oil too expensive) so the temp is about 15/16 at the minute - like Dido it can go down below 10 in winter.

However, as you have had it on for 3 days then it sounds like something might be wrong.

We're in the US and we have a furnace in the roof space and hot air blowers in the ceilings of every room. The thermostat is set to 22 but I can barely feel any heat from the ceiling vents. We moved in to the house last winter and remember it being cold (it's an old drafty house with too many big, single-glazed windows) but never this bad!

I've found an email from the letting company from last winter instructing tenants to keep their properties heated to a minimum of 18 degrees to avoid water pipes freezing, so I think I have a case when complaining to the property manager!

Yanbu!!! Mpif my house reads below 20.5 I'm too cold. I want to be able to walk around without a jumper on when I'm inside tbh!

Yes, I think below 15 degrees is officially the zone for 'danger of respiratory disease'.

Definitely if they're running a business, they need to get the temp up to around 20 degrees (with heating on).

I remember last year we had a thread running about tips to keep warm in these situations. Might dig around and see if I can find it. It might help while you get it sorted. i know we cant afford oil like many people and it was a real help.

I had to conver my F to C, but yes, that's too cold. I'd call the landlord and get it fixed.

Where I am right now it's 30F (-1.1C), and in our house it's 68F (20C).

It does sound like something is wrong with the heating. Mind you the hot air blowers being in the ceiling won't help either, you'll just have the majority of the hot air collecting up high. But even so you should feel it coming out of the vents

Ours is set to 22 degrees to come on at six thirty, it's on till nine am.

My heating is 30 degrees all year round I would be spitting feathers if it ever got to 15

14 is a good temp for a gym.
18 is a decent temp for when you're moving around at home, but if you sit down to watch tv or work at a desk for a long period of time most people will start to get chilly.

for toddlers zooming about the place it's probably OK. But for anyone else, that's fr-fr-fr-freezing!

My house is currently 14 degrees with no heating on!

Mine's on 18 as standard and I manually up it to 21/22 during the day. Housework helps but less than 18 and I feel it.
