DS who is in year one was made to sit out PE yesterday because I forgot his PE kit??

I know I should have remembered but I was away for the night on business and just forgot.

They were doing PE indoors.

Just want to know if I am justified in expressing my frustration to the school as DS was really disappointed. Of course I accept it was my mistake in the first place.

Well when I was little they made you do it in pants and vests if you forgot, I assume things have changed since the early 90's though.

If he didn't have the right clothes eg footwear it probably broke health and safety rules so I think yabu.

Yabu, it's pe and needs his kit. He didn't have it so couldn't participate. What is there to be pissed of at the school for when it's your fault.

Most schools have spare kits for this, but if they didn't I would expect Yr1 PE to be done in trousers, shirt and bare feet if indoors. Different schools have different rules on this however, so I'd just chalk it up to experience and make sure he has his kit next time.

I am not sure what kit you need. I went to school in America & we didn't start changing for PE until 6th grade (age 12). Before that we just played in our normal clothes. (No uniforms!)

You are very reasonable to be pissed off with yourself for forgetting.

Very unreasonable to be pissed off with the school. DS's disappointment is your fault not theirs.

I think dc run around more in the playground than during indoor pe they dont get changed for that. I think year 1 is too young to be expected to remember it himself so I dont think you are BU in being upset that he was the one punished.

Dont they all just have them hanging on their peg all term? Home every half term for a wash?

At my DD's school in yr two they just take their cardigan and tights off if they forget.

When my DH has forgotten the PE bags they just do it bare foot indoors and don't get changed if its outdoors. I always bring the kit home on Friday, wash it straight away then hang the bags with the book bag . You'd think DH would notice when he removes the pe bags to get to the book bags!

I've forgot dd's gym kit a couple times and she's not been able to do it. Completely my fault and only me I'm pissed at. It's not the schools fault

It sounds a bit petty to me to not let 6 year olds dance around the hall in bare feet and school trousers, but you have no grounds to express your frustration. Schools have rules and systems and no child would ever bother with PE kit if there were no rules about it.

Schools can't win: some other parent who has forgotten will be complaining that their child's socks or trousers have holes or dirt on them because they did PE in them, or that they slipped on the hall floor because they didn't have plimsolls.

Suck it up and write a list on the wall.

Going back a long time DW and I put DS's kit by the front door the previous evening where we could not miss it.

If you drive him to school put your car keys on the bag!

But don't blame the school.

Fgs, its hardly crime of the century, op is pnly human.. We all forget things. Imvho, at infant/junior school, slack should be given.

Can he not leave it at school.

I send my DC's P E kit in on the first day of term and they stay there until the end of half term. It's not like they do enough to get sweaty so it doesn't need to be washed. Although DD1 now 10, nearly 11 T shirt comes home weekly to be washed.

it largely depends what the theme of the indoor people was. if it was dance or movement then he probably could have just done it in his pants and vest however if it was gymnastics then I suspect for h&s reasons he would need the correct kit to help prevent any accidents - stubbing your toe on the metal table they use bloody hurts as an adult never mind as a 6yo!!

however you would be barmy to say anything to the school as ultimately it was your fault he didn't have his kit and couldn't take part.

That's nothing - my ultimate goody two shoes 8 year old dd was put on the red traffic light (in her school that is the worst sanction before being sent to the head) because we were late. Late once in 4 years because my watch had stopped. So totally my fault dd had even asked whether we should be leaving for school that morning. How bad did I feel!!! Thought teacher was abit harsh tbh but didn't say anything as I was on shaky ground
