to think my scales are trolling me?

I had a baby 12 weeks ago.

Was 11 stone 4lb at my booking in appt (a good-ish weight for me - trying to maintain anything less = no pizza and wine. I prefer to be 10st anything though). Was 13st 7lb just before I gave birth.

I am bf-ing DS and he feeds all the time.

I've been eating healthy meals but also snacking a lot. I walk 2 miles a day for school runs with (13lb 12oz DS in sling) but don't do any other exercise.

I got on the scales this morning expecting to see around 12st 10lb.

The scales say 11st 6lb Shock .

I made DP come and get weighed too. In 4 separate locations Blush . He maintains they're spot on.

So can a really hungry baby make you lose all your baby weight in 12 weeks without trying???? Or are my scales being evil? Envy

If they are correct I could easily be at my fighting weight for xmas (when I go home and see all my bitchy judgey cousins Wink ). That would be quite awesome.

Very trivial and shallow thread I know. I don't really have anything serious to post in AIBU about Grin .

Water retention?

I was the same, it's great ! I kept loosing as well. Now I am back at work the weight has crept back up to pre-pregnancy pretty much.

mollypup · 08/11/2014 12:08

Funny that you should post this!

Got on the scales last night after a week long all inclusive holiday (didn't go too mad but ate what i want alongside some decent walks): 12st 2lbs

Got on the scales this morning: 11st 10lbs

Shock
Username12345 · 08/11/2014 12:11

Ignore my post that would make you heavier.

If your scales are electronic maybe the batteries need chaging? Or the bf'ing is helping you keep down the snacking calories?

WorraLiberty · 08/11/2014 12:12

Congratulations OP Grin Thanks

I think the combination of healthy meals, exercise and the fact you didn't gain a massive amount during pregnancy (compared to some) has really helped here.

TimeForAnotherNameChange · 08/11/2014 12:26

So can a really hungry baby make you lose all your baby weight in 12 weeks without trying????

Short answer - yes they can! I lost all my baby weight the first time round in about 8 weeks - phenomenally hungry exclusively bf baby, and not being a driver meant I walked everywhere. Enjoy it Grin

BiancaDelRio · 08/11/2014 12:29

Oh my GLOB!!

I am doing a little jig as I type Grin

Off to wake DS up and stick him on the boob. He has 10lb of sucking to do Wink

I bfed and was at my pre pregnancy weight by my 6 week check!

Unfortunately I have put on quite a bit in the 2 years since then, once DD started cutting down feeds I piled weight on.

SophiaPetrillo · 08/11/2014 13:51

I remember going to a wedding when DS was 12 weeks old and people were scared to say anything to me because I was so skinny...they thought something awful had happened and I hadn't had him or something. I didn't BF, well I struggled with it for 2 weeks and gave up...I was just run ragged between him and his sister and never seemed to sit down an eat anything and the weight fell off. I'm a fat bastard now though lol!

BiancaDelRio · 08/11/2014 13:54

Grin Sophia

I always roll my eyes when I read interviews with slebs who say the weight fell off from running around after kids.

I always manage to find time for cake, bacon butties and gin Grin .

Please can I have your scales. I lost all the baby weight quickly but then started going out for lunches and teas and ate it all back.

SophiaPetrillo · 08/11/2014 13:57

Bianca...for me it's wine, kettle chips and cheeseboards. I weigh about 3 stones more than I did in the weeks after DS's birth...sniff...

poolomoomon · 08/11/2014 14:00

It happens. I'm very envious Envy. Breastfeeding didn't make me lose anything, nadda zip zilch. If anything it made me retain weight because I had such an enormous appetite! I only lost the weight when I stopped Breastfeeding.

I think I'm in a minority though, most people talk about the amazing weight loss from BFing. Well done you! The walking will definitely have helped too.

WorraLiberty · 08/11/2014 14:11

That's the thing. It might not even be down to breastfeeding at all.

I formula fed all of my 3 DC and lost any weight I gained (which admittedly wasn't much), within a week of giving birth.

It could well be your diet and exercise, who knows?

Actually who cares? Just enjoy it Grin

CrohnicallyAnxious · 08/11/2014 14:17

Perhaps it made a difference how much weight you gained? I was huge, I had gestational diabetes which wasn't picked up till third tri and I went from 60 ish kg to 75 or something like that

BiancaDelRio · 08/11/2014 14:26

Oh I don't really care how it's happpened Worra Grin .

I'm going to consider it a big bonus and start being good from this point on!

It's shopping day tomorrow so can fill the fridge with healthy stuff. I really don't want to pile weight on. I was once 13st (not pregnancy related) and I was thoroughly bloody miserable Sad .

stoopstofolly · 08/11/2014 14:48

I was 11 stone at booking appointment. 13.5 stone to give birth Angry However, due to problems with the placenta DS was born full term at only 5.5lbs.
6 months later he's on the 95th percentile for height and weight, and I'm 9.5 stone. He literally ate the weight off me. Consultant was flabbergasted. I ate reasonably normally as well, although once I realised the weight was coming off I stopped lots of snacks. Didn't manage to leave the house much as he ate all the time for 6 months.
The trick is to be really careful when you stop breastfeeding.... I'm now 10.5 stone!

CaptainJaneSafeway · 08/11/2014 14:56

Yes. I had hungry babies and a massive oversupply of milk - so besides them guzzling a lot, I leaked constantly. Both times I lost a good couple of stone in the first few months. I wasn't doing any formal exercise, just walking around with the pram. And I also remember doing things like going into the shop to buy a Danish pastry, inhaling it on the pavement outside, then going back in for another because I was so hungry.

BiancaDelRio · 08/11/2014 15:16

That's a coincidence CaptainJane.

I've been leaking loads. This morning the mattress was soaked. I spent an hour cleaning it Shock .

I never weighed myself with DD but I do remember when she was about 6 months I went home and everyone was Shock about my weight. I was easily wearing my skinniest size 12 skinny jeans so must have been about 10st 7lb.

It's so silly but I have been really giddy since this morning. Why is so much of my happiness tied up in how much I weigh? It's bonkers (and I blame my mother but that's a whole other thread Grin ).

notagainffffffffs · 08/11/2014 15:23

Hurray! Good for you :) I was the same, I made you I did a squillion sit ups and all the squats though because my best friend had so much trouble shifting it

Gen35 · 08/11/2014 15:30

Yes bf makes weight drop off me. It's the main perk - was back at my booking weight at 4 weeks, but this is dc2 and I also know that its post bf when I'm used to massive potions and eating lots of chocolate that I pack the weight on...

alphablock · 08/11/2014 15:51

I put on 3.5 stone during pregnancy, but was down below my pre-pregnancy weight by the time I left hospital 4 days after my DD was born! Turned out all my weight gain was just baby and fluids (the night after she was born I had to go to the loo at least once an hour for the whole night - which wasn't much fun after a CS). DD was 6 weeks early, so I had the worried looks too Sophia as people couldn't understand why my bump had mysteriously vanished.
