To not force potty training

My dd is 2 yrs 8 mths and not remotely interested in potty training. She refuses to even sit on the potty tbh! My son was 3 when he was potty trained & we did it in a weekend. AIBU to wait a bit- I keep getting loads of 'isnt she out of nappies yet' comments & its making me stressed!

I've started potty training DS today - I've just took his nappy off to see what happens! So far he seems quite excited that wee is coming out but not fussed about where he does it...!Grin

Arf aeroflot I've never had my nickname mistyped as "Fuckle" before. I might change it on a permanent basis!

I believe the early potty training was something cultural but I'm almost too scared to ask.

Oops sorry Fickle, my I pad auto correct Grin

I am definately with the 'wait til they are ready ' brigade. DD1 was her 2nd bithday DS1 was just turned 3 and he was dry day and night from that day. DD2 was about 3 as well. a friend of mine had her 1 year old trins sat on potties last time I visited.I keep forgetting to ask her how that is going! I know my mum says that my older brother was so predictable/routine as to when he pooed as a baby that she held sat him on a potty at the same time each day and went nearly a year without a pooey nappy....but that was not really potty training as such!

Twins not trins!

Chopsypie · 07/11/2014 14:13

DD is 2.10 and has no interest in potty training. She poos on the toilet because she hates having a dirty nappy on but wee doesn't bother her.
TBH I'm just ignoring it. She will want pants eventually

Snatchoo · 07/11/2014 14:14

I agree, don't try and force it. We tried age 2 and a half twins - several accidents. Two weeks after their third birthday, they asked for pants and we're dry immediately (had poo problems until recently and at age nearly six neither is dry at night though).

DS 3 is just three and DH has tried him in pants today. Poo everywhere. Think we'll be laving it for a bit!

aeroflotgirl I'm very reassured to know you're in the same boat! I'm sure dd is the only one in her nursery class in nappies. Well, I think she is.

Vanillaradio · 07/11/2014 17:35

Ds has just turned 1. Mil asked me on Sunday why we hadn't started potty training yet!!! As we don't plan to until he is ready I think we will be having the same conversation repeatedly over the next few years! Yanbu to wait!

groovylucy · 07/11/2014 18:21

My boy been using toilet for two wks for wees only, not no2! He's been holding it in I think cos he used to be regular and so far whilst wearing pants during Day time he's not as regular, dunno how to get him to do the stools in the toilet! Stared training him late, hes 3 and a half, but left it
Late due to his delayed development issues

Also you ANBU.
