to be so upset with the private antenatal test provider?

Sadly our 12 week screening came up with high risk for a chromosome disorder. To avoid miscarriage risk we decided to go for a Harmony test with a private provider based at the hospital. There was a 3 weeks wait for the test to get booked, then another 2 weeks for the result to come through.

Result should have been through on Monday, when I had the test I was told they would call me. They didn't. I started to call lots. No answer to any calls, all went to voicemail. I left several messages. Finally today I got a call back - the person who runs the service is on leave for half term and no-one else can access the results! Hopefully a senior midwife will sort it out tomorrow and call me...

Its been a really stressful wait and it seems silly but now I'm in tears about it all even though we'll hopefully know tomorrow either way. It just seems really terrible organisation that no one realised this would happen when this person went on leave. I want to write and complain, and make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else - on the other hand its just a few more days delay on 5 weeks wait anyway, am I over-reacting? Argh. Need the Apprentice to start soon and take my mind off it all.

Im so sorry Holy... What a nightmare. As if the waiting isn't stressful enough you now have an extra week of it.

Fingers crossed you get good results when they finally come through Thanks

How hard would it have been to put a short message on that voicemail, or redirect calls to a switchboard? You'd think a specialist firm like that would have a bit of wit and realise they're dealing with people at a very vulnerable time.

Hope The Apprentice takes your mind off it for an hour- some proper knobs on it this year! Thanks

I hope the results are positive.

The way they have been handled is truly terrible. I think you should definitely send in a written complaint. I would be asking if they're not forthcoming today for the member of staff on leave to be contacted to sort it out.

Had a friend in a similar position recently. Outcome (effectively communicated) was good. She went through such agony - totally outrageous to prolong that for a second longer than necessary.
