to feel rage in the supermarket

Every time I see all small orange citrus fruits labelled as 'easy peelers'? They have NAMES. Pretty ones, like clementine and tangerine. And they are NOT ALL THE SAME. Are we soon going to have to buy crunchy munchers instead of apples?

I feel the rage whenever I see bags of easy peelers too, and refuse to buy them. Luckily, the supermarkets have loads of satsumas at the moment, which are my favourites,

puntasticusername · 24/10/2014 14:15

YANBU, I hate this. Dumbing down so people don't have to trouble themselves remembering what a satsuma is.

Clementines ftw for me, btw.

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 24/10/2014 14:22

YABU. Theres so much more to be enraged about in the super marketWink

Makes me mad too (although I did buy some... not any easier to peel though!).

Please, what is the difference between a tangerine, clementine and satsuma? Also a mandarin??

Titsalinabumsquash · 24/10/2014 14:28

The Clementine is the queen of all the citrus fruits imo.

ProneUponHerUnmadeBed · 24/10/2014 14:29

Absolutely, BuggerLumps. But the fruit and veg is the first bit I get to, and I'm usually so enraged by the easy-peelers, that I don't have enough bile for the remaining aisles Wink

Noooo satsumas rule! I love autumn just for satsumas!

VulvaVoom · 24/10/2014 14:33

It is a crappy name but I buy easy peelers as otherwise I have to spend far too much time peeling off every bit of pith (and I mean every bit) for me and DD. It makes me boak.

jeee · 24/10/2014 14:35

I did snigger when, under the heading of exotic fruits, I saw a punnet of blackberries.

I don't think I could be bothered to get the rage about it, though.

ithoughtofitfirst · 24/10/2014 14:46

There are just too many types of orange imo. It's super confusing. Don't even get me started on herbs Grin

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 24/10/2014 14:49

My supermarket rage is primarily reserved for slow walkers. My moto is walk fast or walk narrow.

cherrybombxo · 24/10/2014 14:50

I buy easy peelers because I can never remember which ones are the easy-to-peel ones Grin

rumbleinthrjungle · 24/10/2014 15:02

YANBU

As a sideline, I'm v impressed you can stay zen until you reach the fruit aisle. I hit rage just walking through the door of the wretched place. 0-60 in 3 seconds. Confused

ithoughtofitfirst · 24/10/2014 15:11

I have actually walked through the doors of my local tesco extra before now, thought 'fuck this', and left.

ChaosK · 24/10/2014 15:13

Crunchy Munchers has cracked me up!
There must be a place in all our lives for a crunchy muncher!!! If you don't mind, proneupon, and haven't bagsied it already, I might make it my new MN username.

ithoughtofitfirst · 24/10/2014 15:16

What's them apples called? Crunchy munchers? Yeah that's it i need some crunchy munchers.

ithoughtofitfirst · 24/10/2014 15:17

I have to do something productive now i've been on MN for like 2 hours.

JuanFernandezTitTyrant · 24/10/2014 15:19

I thought easy peelers were some sort of hybrid they had bred for their easy peel appeal Blush

ipswichwitch · 24/10/2014 15:23

I've done that too ithoughtofthisfirst.
If I have even the teensiest bit of bother getting the trolley to separate from the other trolleys I just leave. That in itself gives me the rage, especially when I'm holding baby DS2 and trying to stop toddler DS1 from flinging himself under the nearest car, and a ton of people go past without bothering their arses helping. By the time I got to the easy peelers I'd be homicidal.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 24/10/2014 15:24

YANBU!

Easy Peelers indeed!

I like crunchy munchers though!

We could also have Shitty Wipers for baby wipes....

OOAOML · 24/10/2014 15:26

Clementines are my small orange of choice - I find them a lovely sharp citrus taste. My husband likes satsumas, which I find more bland and not as strong. Mandarins I'm not sure of, and what about tangerines?

BeggingYourPardon · 24/10/2014 15:27

Urgh there is nothing worse than getting a powdery surprise apple though when you wanted a crunchy muncher.

Same with peaches. It could be juicy, it could be like chewing on a camels dandruff.

I'd love descriptive fruit labels!

ProneUponHerUnmadeBed · 24/10/2014 15:57

My take is that there are four basic branches of small citrus fruits: clementines (my favourites), which combine tart and sweet and have tight skins; satsumas, baggier and, like OOAMOL says, something of a disappointment after clementines; mandarins which, um, taste like the tinned ones. And tangerines. Which are ... bigger and Christmassy. Yes.
The point is, I want to know which one I'm buying!
