YANBU - it's utter shite.

fluffyraggies · 24/10/2014 10:57

YANBU

plinky plonky dirge of a song.

MrsVamoOOOOOOOOOOs · 24/10/2014 10:58

I think its the Children In Need single this year.

MrsVamoOOOOOOOOOOs · 24/10/2014 10:59

Plinky plonky

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 24/10/2014 11:00

Can't stand it, it was awful first time round and sounds even more limp thanks to the collective warblers doing their bit for 'charidee!'

LineRunner · 24/10/2014 11:01

The beach boy one says it's his most spiritual song wot he wrote.

WookieCookiee · 24/10/2014 11:03

that and the "Cecelia" travesty that's out at the moment are conspiring to make car journeys hell.
Still the upside is I get to make DS1 listen to Simon & Garfunkel - one real version for every tripey rubbishy not even a proper cover version. I do sort of lalalalala over some of the lyrics though.

specialsubject · 24/10/2014 11:04

it is.

think carefully about donating to Children in Need - overheads are MASSIVE even though they are apparently all funded by investment income. But that of course means that a lot of donations aren't going anywhere.

susiedaisy · 24/10/2014 11:07

I like it

LineRunner · 24/10/2014 11:08

I read that Children in Need has £50m unspent, stashed away in investments.

I do prefer to give to smaller, local charities where ten or twenty quid makes a difference. Our local community centre runs a xmas party for older people, for example, on a shoestring. Twenty quid to them means a lot.

R4roger · 24/10/2014 11:09

ah but how many times have you hear it Susiedaisy?

Runs away from thread.

Have

R4roger · 24/10/2014 11:13

dont mind the beachboys version, it used to be my favourite song Blush Grin

CumberCookie · 24/10/2014 11:44

love the beach boys classic but don't like the new version.

Anybody else think the lyrics are quite creepy and not appropriate for a charity single too? "If you should ever leave me....what good would living do me?"

SophiaPetrillo · 24/10/2014 13:01

Heard it for the first time in the car on Sunday. The original is one of DH's favourite songs (I hate it) but even he had to turn this abomination off. It was when Brian May chimed in, he couldn't take it any longer. It's a horrible "kitchen sink" production, they've thrown everything in there, I was just waiting for the kazoo solo.

R4roger · 24/10/2014 13:06

oh god knows, Brian May does not help

I'm with all the posters who say BB is great, this is poo onna stick. It's like they all lined up going "mee, me, mee"
Btw when children in need night? I need to be scrubbing the bath or something interesting.

PoppyFleur · 24/10/2014 13:12

The original is a fav of mine but this re-make has destroyed my fondness for the song. Bring back Peter Kay, the man understands how to market a charity track.

Fubsy · 24/10/2014 13:13

Just my own experience here, but I've worked with sick and SN children for 29 years and only know of one, very small project getting support from CIN. I've applied to them on behalf of a group i worked with years ago, and I know others who have and been turned down. I would love to know who really does benefit.

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 24/10/2014 13:15

Ive never managed to listen to anymore than the DJ introduction.

AnnieLobeseder · 24/10/2014 13:18

It's dire. The number of professional musicians singing "withow chew" instead of "without you" makes my teeth itch. Lazy, lazy singing. And it's just a rehash of the BBC version of Perfect Day, which was unique when they did it, but not so great that they needed to do it again.

MyGhostIsFlummoxed · 24/10/2014 13:24

It's the opera-y bit towards the end that makes me a bot stabby-it just doesn't fit with the rest of it.

MyGhostIsFlummoxed · 24/10/2014 13:25

*bit

BuzzardBird · 24/10/2014 13:27

Haven't heard it, is it any good? Grin Can't believe there's no link, now I have to Google, all by myself with no-one doing it for me :(
