I bought a second hand bedside cabinet yesterday which appeared clean so I filled it with my stuff already. My husband thinks I'm weird and disgusting for not giving it a good clean first like his mum does. Am I disgusting and unreasonable?

I don't think it is disgusting, no. That said, I'd have probably given the inside a quick wipe-down but then I'm partial to a bit of surface wiping.

DomiKatetrixortreat · 21/10/2014 20:03

Do what you feel comfortable with!
I would've cleaned it first Wink

londonrach · 21/10/2014 20:05

Do what you feel is right by you but id have given it a clean.

Funkytown · 21/10/2014 20:08

i probably wouldn't of cleaned it

but then again I've been known to eat food off the floor so my opionion counts for nothing Grin

Oh no looks like dh might be right. Though I don't see why.

Yes of course you should have given it a good cleanConfused I'm with your DH on this.

TimeForAnotherNameChange · 21/10/2014 20:17

If it looked in good clean condition and I'd bought it from a decent source, I'd probably have just chucked my stuff in too! Might have wiped it down, but probably wouldn't in all honesty. It's varnished wood, what do people think is going to happen?!

farendofafart · 21/10/2014 20:20

I would have (and have on frequent occasions) chucked my stuff straight in it. I am really not bothered about this sort of thing. I think people that clean stuff that looks clean are weird.

I would spray all second hand furniture with insect spray after a friend ended up with a bed bug infestation after getting a second hand wardrobe from ebay. The pest people identified it as the cause but it was too late and she ended up with expensive fumigation and replacing carpets etc.

RedButtonhole · 21/10/2014 20:28

I'd have wiped it down if it was visibly dusty, but if it looked clean I doubt I'd have bothered.

ZenNudist · 21/10/2014 20:42

Yes I'd clean it, you don't know where it's been.

someone could have stored their penis beaker on it Grin

waithorse · 21/10/2014 20:43

Zen Grin .

louloudoodah · 21/10/2014 20:44

I would had I bought it.
However, when I sell or give away anything then I scrub it first.
So had it come from me, you wouldn't need to clean it Grin
