Another thread has detailed my struggles this week to get psychiatric help. I have now been prescribed a drug that can help and I am petrified of taking it in case I get the side effects (listed as heart problems right through to sudden death). There's no way I feel confident enough to take it :( WTF is wrong with me??

Most drugs have to say what the worst case scenario side effects are just to cover themselves, but I know what you mean, sometimes the side effects (even when they're not as dramatic as 'sudden death') can be worse than whatever it is you're trying to relieve.

What were you prescribed the drugs for? (If you don't mind me asking)

its not that you don't want to get better you don't actually want to get worse and the fact that you don't wish to die is a comfort phone the doctors and ask if you're at risk of the side effects i think the sudden death one is only applicable in at risk groups

which drug lovey

Is it Citalipram/escitalipram? If so, it's only an issue if you have a pre-existing condition called long QT syndrome which is very rare and maximum doses have been changed in recent years to account for that.

Hope you feel better soon. Mental health problems are a bugger.

DixieTreats · 19/10/2014 03:50

No, it's quetiapine and I def do not have long QT syndrome. My father is a Dr and has practised as both cardiologist and psychiatrist so he's been holding my hand, metaphorically speaking. First tablet taken.... The start of the road.

I take olanzapine atm was taking sodium valproate too and sertraline. I have previously taken arirpiprazole, depakote and paroxetine.

On some the side effects were unbearable. Some didn't work. Try not to be scared if they don't work you can always try another.
