To not want to throw out jewellery boxes?!

Loads of empty jewellery and watch boxes cluttering my dressing table-Swarovski etc. I never end up keeping the necklaces in the boxes so should I just chuck them. Or should I keep stuff in them instead of on jewellery hangers etc. Think I just need someone to say -chuck them you crazy hoarder. Or are they special and sentimental....ps. This is not a stealth boast, my jewellery is largely tat!

I'd only keep them if I knew I was likely to sell on. (In my case, I have a nice large jewellery case which all stuff goes in, but I do keep the original box of 'special' jewellery.)

ScarletFever · 17/10/2014 20:35

I am a secret box lover - I adore boxes etc, especially wooden ones
my family thinks its really funny (my sister loves chairs.... go figure)
so - no YANBU from me

can you use them to put other stuff in?

neighbourhoodwitch · 17/10/2014 20:36

definitely chuck them!

threepiecesuite · 17/10/2014 20:38

Oh, I keep them all too. And fancy paper carrier bags. And even nice tags and labels. I don't know why.
And I wonder why the house feels so cluttered...

littlepeas · 17/10/2014 20:45

I have all of mine, but I do actually keep the jewellery in them. I have a big box for costume stuff, but all 'proper' jewellery is kept in the original box. I feel weird throwing stuff like that away, although I would probably never miss it once I did! I used to be terrible for hoarding empty perfume bottles too, but I force myself to throw them out now.

Vijac · 17/10/2014 20:50

Oh no, this isn't helping at all!! Clearly not just me!

Keep them, but put them in a shoebox in a cupboard somewhere. When I got burgled and all my jewelry was stolen, I had no proof of purchase (a lot were gifts or very old) so the insurance co took the boxes as evidence of their existence, in conjunction with some photos etc as well.

Trills · 17/10/2014 21:43

They are not useful to you. Chuck them.

ZuluBob · 17/10/2014 21:46

I'm in the 'chuck them you crazy horder' camp Grin

BlueSix · 17/10/2014 21:47

I keep mine because I keep the jewellery in them but if you don't then get rid of them. Try selling them in eBay though I've got money for empty boxes before!

MidniteScribbler · 19/10/2014 07:57

Do not throw out the Swarovski boxes. If the item is damaged, you need to have the original box to send it back in.

SilverDragonfly1 · 19/10/2014 11:02

Send the non-expensive ones to meeeee! I make mine into dolls house furniture ;)

I think the shoebox idea is the one to go for really.

ScarletFever another box lover here :) I say I'm a collector, so people don't think it's so odd. I don't tell them about the gorgeous cardboard box I once got a mug in, or the ones that used to contain notelets...

Lonecatwithkitten · 19/10/2014 11:09

Having been burgled I now never leave my jewellery out. It is all in it's boxes hidden in a wide variety of places.

Mouthfulofquiz · 19/10/2014 13:03

I keep all of my jewellery in the original boxes, inside another big box which is quite well hidden in my bedroom- I don't keep it on hangers because I find things get scratched or I might get perfume or hairspray on them which isn't good for any jewellery (but especially pearls!)

Nomama · 19/10/2014 13:06

I'm another who would pop all boxes into a shoe box and put it away for some unknown future use!

I hang my jewellery on a peg board behind my bedroom door. As the door is always open it is not immediately obvious.

hellohelloididntseeyouthere · 19/10/2014 19:34

How many boxes are we talking about?
