to think my DP has a hoarding problem?

How much clothing is 'normal' for a man? My DP keeps buying clothes (not expensive, just supermaket/high street stuff). So much so, that I have started counting items. For example, he has 49 pairs of underpants in his drawer, and yesterday bought another packet of three. Confused

Does sound a bit OTT. Will he allow you to throw stuff away?

supersop60 · 16/10/2014 18:16

I have suggested that he throws his old stuff away to make room for the new, but he shrugs it off with some comment about not liking to, or 'I always look after my stuff, that's why it lasts so long'.

Oh dear, I have more than 49 pairs of knickers - but then I'm a lazy slob when it comes to use of the washing machine. Don't think I'm a hoarder - just lazy...

moxon · 16/10/2014 19:26

I think to qualify him as 'hoarder' you need to have trouble wading across the bedroom floor for pants. Hmm

moxon · 16/10/2014 19:30

Also, I still have some nice knickers in my drawer which I bought in 2005 when I was 2 sizes smaller, pre-dc and pre-sedentism, and am keeping because obviously I will be able to fit into them again. Right?

BreadForBrains · 16/10/2014 19:33

Well I have well over 70 pairs of knickers but they're all in different styles and colours. Dp has about 15 pairs of boxers in the same style (though various patterns). I wouldn't get rid of mine as I wear them all but id think dp was a hoarder if he had so many pairs purely because he has the same ones for all purposes.
What else does he have lots of?

supersop60 · 16/10/2014 19:47

At the last count 67 pairs of socks, 37 pairs of trousers, not sure about t-shirts, might just pop upstairs while he's out. There are 3 wardrobes and 9 drawers in our bedroom. I have one wardrobe and two drawers for my stuff- the rest is all his. He has now spread into the spare room with clothes all over the bed, and shoes!!! I'll have to count the shoes too. Just a minute.....

That does sound like he has a ridiculous amount of clothes...how could anyone ever need so many?!

Is it just clothes he has lots of?

LittleBairn · 16/10/2014 19:55

My DH has somewhere in the region of 60+ shirts, he rarely wears shirts.
If you find a cure for your DH do share my DH could do ith some help too.

53 t-shirts (a few more in the wash bin), and 29 pairs of footwear, not counting wellies and motorbike boots.

Lots of items repeated.

lampy He's a brass player and has about 50 mouthpieces, endless chargers/adaptors/leads for things we don't have anymore
