To think PMT is much worse after kids?

I never used to be particularly bothered by heavy periods before my DC's were born but since having second child they are hideous!
For the week leading up to my period now I am an irrational, emotional mess with migranes and aches and pains. I inhale carbs and sugar for most of the time I have got my period and my tummy gets so bloated that I look pregnant.
Aibu to think this is normal after kids? I am 41 and still get very regular periods but did initially wonder if it was a sign of being peri- menopausal.

Mine have been much, much heavier since giving birth and the pain is worse too. I also feel quite dizzy and have terrible back ache...

BikeRunSki · 15/10/2014 23:32

Mine have been much lighter, shorter and barely noticeable.

Could well be the approach of the dreaded menopause....

My periods got heavier and heavier, and increasingly irregular, throughout my early 40s and I also became very hormonal and moody - just about everything gave me the rage. Sex drive dropped through the floor. After a 29 day monster period from hell, a blood test and a scan indicated I was perimenopausal, then shortly afterwards , (at 46) my periods just stopped completely.

If it gets too heavy do go and see your GP. There are loads of things they can prescribe to help you through, so don't suffer in silence.

Not my experience.

Mine haven't v
Changed since I was 14 and I am now 49. Same length of time, same rate of flow, punctual as a Swiss train!

TheFantasticFixit · 16/10/2014 00:56

OP.. I'm exactly the same. Both babies delivered by c sections and i wondered if that had some effect on my periods but perhaps not. Bizarrely, during ovulation my symptoms are quite extreme - bloating, 'ovary' pain, ewcm (tmi? Blush) and oh boy, i am horrid. Really not a pleasant person but i don't seem to have control over my emotions at all. Periods similar, but not so bad on the emotions, more headachey, flu type symptoms.

Bloody sucks Hmm

NormaStits · 16/10/2014 05:36

My wife said hers got better afterwards. I'm hoping I will be the same because I have had years of irrational pmt rages. Currently 35 weeks pregnant and I don't think any of us will survive if my periods return with worse pmt!

littlehayleyc · 16/10/2014 09:23

I haven't had that experience either. I don't get pains anymore, and my periods don't seem to last as long, but are heavier. Suppose everyone's different

poolomoomon · 16/10/2014 09:40

Agreed. I hate myself for a whole week before my period, really loathe myself. Yy with the carbs and sugar, I do the same thing. Feel worthless, irritated and snap at stupid things Sad. Never had pmt before DC. My actual periods are the same though. I also get ovulation pains now, never had them before DC. They hurt so much...

Spindarella · 16/10/2014 09:41

Mine are much worse since DC2 but not sure if it's an age thing?

KitCat26 · 16/10/2014 09:43

My periods are better than pre kids, they don't hurt anywhere near as much and seem to be less heavy. But the pmt rage is much worse. It could also be that pre kids I was on hormonal contraception, and i could chill out more easily. The demands of parenting are pretty constant and I find it much harder to get some peace when stressed.

I'm keeping an eye on things as my mum started with perimenopausal symptoms at 35 and was out the other side by 45.

KitCat26 · 16/10/2014 09:47

I get ovulation pains now too, and grumpy at that time, but I wasn't ovulating when on the pill from mid teens - TTC. I'm 31 now so can't really compare with pre DCs.

flumpysocks · 16/10/2014 10:14

My periods got lighter and shorter, but my PMT got much worse. I was getting almost suicidal for up to three or four days before each period. Tried lots of things (can't have oestrogen based treatments due to migraines) but eventually discovered a combination of evening primrose oil and starflower oil daily has all but got rid of it - just a little bit sad the day before my period starts but otherwise i sometimes cant even tell I'm due.

ghostmous3 · 16/10/2014 16:51

My periods are heavier but shorter, i get really big clots too. The pmt is awfulthough, i feel suicidal, worthless, paranoid, everyone hates me. I am evil.

I also get very sore boobs. I cant even brush against something without wincing. Thats only started in the last year or so. I am 37
