I didn't see the final few posts but I could see how it was heading... I don't know if there was any particular remark at the end which caused the deletion.

I read it. I didn't think troll but I did think 'weird' but thought nothing more of it because there's nowt such strange as folk.

Alarm bells went for me with the ugly MIL and not wanting to look Indian.

It was done by drip feed. The tread started off very innocently - just about a little girl not liking her name - so there were lots of replies. Then the notion of the girl being different and ugly in her own eyes, because of her Indian genes, was introducedand basically a racist theme developed.

Trolls are much more subtle now - they know better than to lead with the point they're really trying to make and now introduce it gradually.

So weird that someone would bother to do that, I don't see the point. Mind you, the husband suggesting that the baby's name be given to the four year old was so utterly bizzare I should have realised then.

No, but Trolls' minds do not work like ours and that is why they are sometimes so difficult to spot. They have a particular agenda they want to push and they enjoy the sense of power that results from starting a passionate argument amongst complete strangers. I'm getting much better at Troll-spotting now - even a year on MN has sharpened my instincts. Another giveaway on this thread were the extraordinary questions she was asking about her children - were they white or half-caste etc.
