To be totally fascinated with Daphne in The Kitchen

Sorry if this has already been discussed. I sat there open-mouthed when Daphne's father let her have her pudding! I mean we've probably all had wobbly parenting moments and I'm not saying I'm a perfect parent, but that really took the biscuit, and the cake, and the pudding to boot!

Poor kid is going to get some terrible shocks when she grows up and realises Daddy won't always be there to rescue her and give in.

And the mother!! Teasing them both that Daphne has daddy wrapped round her little finger! It made compelling TV anyway! AIBU to be so excited to see what Daphne gets up to next?

I guess it was just me then! Smile

No! I thought the same.

They're a weird family and that child has no boundaries. The dad just sits there smirking at the head of the table. They're very showy-offy and irritating.

PinkAndBlueBedtimeBears · 14/10/2014 16:19

I find these sorts of program's so interesting! And Rob Gale used to go to my school which is even weirder!!

I did think it was pretty flimsy parenting, but equally, if that was my dh a lot more would have been said when dc not in the room about undermining my parenting!!

farewellfigure · 14/10/2014 16:28

Exactly pink. I wonder if she let rip once the cameras were off? I was just gobsmacked that not only did the mum let him get away with it, she then TEASED him about it in front of the daughter. The girl KNOWS Daddy gives in, and now the Mum has reinforced it and made it into a big joke!

And if my DS spoke to me in that tone... 'Daddy you overcooked it', or said in a smirky way, 'I fed the disgusting trout to the ferrets' he would have been sent to his room. She fed it to the ferrets and the parents just SMIRKED.

I thought she was badly behaved. When she crouched under the table I couldn't believe it - that's toddler behaviour. This week her Mum was spoon feeding her!
The family with 6 children are lovely & their Dad (Hamish?) is fantastic. I also really like the Welsh family.

ArgyMargy · 14/10/2014 17:10

Let's face it - this is telly so you get the characters acting up big time and saying/doing things that they would never normally do. Also you get the editing to create controversy and threads like this. I saw this for the first time last night and I also wondered about the spoon-feeding - I came to the conclusion that like many women, the mother was actually feeding herself from her daughters plate because that way she can pretend she hasn't had any… Loving the Sikh family's dry humour and the Brum family "prayers"!

chemenger · 14/10/2014 17:19

I thought most of them were a bit more normal this week, and maybe a bit less funny. I would most like to taste the Sikh family's food, it always looks great and their chat seems the most natural, they are a hoot sometimes.

No amount of couples retreats could make me live with that smug git with the swimming pool for more than five minutes.

At least Daphne's mum took her hat off this week, and she seemed a bit more relaxed and less pretentious.

I really love the older couple, his dress sense was making us chuckle even before it was revealed that he knits his own jumpers. I hope it continues to be as entertaining, but I do wonder what possesses anyone to go on a programme like this.

farewellfigure · 14/10/2014 17:55

Ah we haven't watched this week's yet. We did wonder if people might become more 'normal' once the novelty of having the camera on them has worn off. I'm really looking forward to it!

We love the Sikh family too, and the Welsh lot. I'm loving seeing the contrast between what people cook.

I'm looking forward to seeing Daphne's mum without the hat too!

What is this? Sounds bizarre. Care to explain for a non UK MNer? :)

CedricBloomer · 14/10/2014 18:01

I laughed when Daphne refused the trout. The mother had been very smug up until then about her children's eating habits. "Would you prefer a McDonalds or mozzarella?" ODFOD.

calzone · 14/10/2014 19:31

Tis fascinating! Smile

Bertie....bbc1 The Kitchen. Monday evening.

Reality show about the way families eat.

There is a flat share
A posh family with 3 children....one is Daphne.
Another posh family with 6 kids.
A smug git bloke who grows his own food but is most annoying
Welsh family who eats lots of ready meals.Grin
Old couple from Bolton

Etc etc

Really good show.

londonrach · 15/10/2014 10:38

I love the guys in the flat share. Also love gabriels family.

blanketyblank100 · 15/10/2014 12:25

I only like the Sikh family and the one with six children. Want to go and live there actually. Ace parenting. Daphne's family are embarrassing themselves. Daphne is going to end up spoilt and disliked but I suspect her mother won't notice and her dad won't care.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 15/10/2014 12:31

The whole family was a bit odd, made my children look like angels!

I did find it compelling viewing but lots of pretentiousness, especially the woman with the hat and the other family with lots of children and the parents who turned the Internet offGrin

The welsh family seemed really down to earth and I found myself liking their honesty, and I really liked the Sikh family, they seemed very genuine and good fun.

fourwoodenchairs · 15/10/2014 12:32

I absolutely love The Kitchen!!! Daphne is very cute, I can see why she gets away with a lot!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 15/10/2014 12:34

I thought Gabriel's family had a very odd diet, fry up for breakfast and meal replacement drinks for lunchGrin Gabriel seemed lovely though.

ChillyHeatwave · 15/10/2014 12:45

Daphne's family is just a wierd rich show off family IMO. Love tha family with six children...and their dinner gong! Grin Gabriel and his family are hilarious! The couples retreat family is just..I don't know..I can't put my finger on it.

SavoyCabbage · 15/10/2014 12:48

I love the way they keep on about the variety in their prayers.

Daphne's mother is such a show off.

fourwoodenchairs · 15/10/2014 13:09

Really don't like Gabriel's Mum and Sister. The sister especially acts like a know it all and I think really plays up to the cameras. Fucks me off and I always forward it to the next family when they come on.

angry much?
