To think that they actually are awesome at female characters development and empowerment?

After the first episodes that made me want to scream with frustration (abused wife, laundry chores and no guns for the women), we have some of the strongest female characters on TV: Michone, an educated woman that is also a one-woman army, and Carol, a once abuse victim that gets to be the group savior and be completly believable when doing so.

With GoT, these shows are actually changing the stereotypical female characters on TV!

Oh well, I guess I just wanted to talk about that fantastic season premiere!

Just watched, I agree!

weeblueberry · 13/10/2014 22:31

Loved it and totally agree. I commented that I'd never have guessed carol would become the total badass she has!

Seafoam · 13/10/2014 22:34

Carol has really come into her own, I said to dh after that final scene where they're all walking down the rail track that despite so many characters, you know a decent amount about each one.. The whole thing is written really well.

Am I right in thinking this is the last season? The ginger guys acting is appalling. Just saying!

OfaFrenchMind · 13/10/2014 22:36

They still have plenty of material from the comics, so I think we can expect more.

Yes yes yes! I love bad ass Carol and I was so happy she went in and saved the group!! She has come so far since season 1!

seafoam AMC have already renewed for a sixth season. They apparently have planned for around 12 but I guess it depends how long the ratings stay up for.

FernArable · 13/10/2014 22:49

I'm pretty sure it just got announced that they're doing another season plus a spin off show.
Also with this show it's the men who wear their emotional baggage on their sleeves and let it rule them for a change. Makes a change from over emotional women. Maggie can be bad ass too.

originalusernamefail · 13/10/2014 22:54

Bloody hell Seafoam you had me worried for a minute there! They always finish shows I love, but crap like X-factor won't die Sad. Not feeling the new doctor yet so need my walker fix.

Loved this weeks episode, was perched on the edge of the sofa looking like this Blush. Morgan is back! I wonder if he will meet up with the main group, and if he's still mad.

One question. If I love the TV program will I love the novels? I know there are some huge differences and am worried the differences will make it impossible for me to follow/ enjoy either.

Seafoam · 13/10/2014 22:55

Ohh so glad to hear it. I wonder why I thought that then! YY to maggie.

OfaFrenchMind · 13/10/2014 23:15

The comics can be good, but quality is fluctuating. Definitly worth a shot (my first too are in french, almost turned me off because of the awful translation)
The storylines are loosely followed in the séries, same for the characters (and no Daryl!!) they are also more daring in the shocking moments.

When I grow up I want to be Michone.

I avoided the show for ages - zombies, gore, comic book spin off. Would be cliche city.

The acting is amazing. Every episode I am blown away. And the character development! Wow. More importantly everyone stays in character. Nobody does something just because the story needs it.

So we start with these two dimensional stereotypes and even more stereotypical storylines. And then we end up emotionally wiped out by Merle. Merle!

Cannot believe it isn't winning awards left right and centre.

It was amazing wasn't it.

And the scene where carol handed the baby to tyrece (think he's called) to go rescue the group inner feminist gave a little cheer. It is so refreshing to have so many strong female characters on TV at the moment.

OfaFrenchMind · 14/10/2014 11:14

^ This is what I liked: the woman that is a third of the man's bulk is going for the protector role, and the big man is actually a good and nurturing soul (and kills herds of zombies with his bare hands...)

I refused to watch this show for years. I hate blood and gore plus the zombie thing is so over done now. But this summer I had two weeks off work due to back pain. I saw the box set had only a week left on Sky. I thought I'd watch the first episode just to say I had given it a go... I binged watched the first three seasons in a week but just missed out on the fourth. Blush However channel 5 repeated series 4 after fans got pissed off with them canning it. 2 episodes every Saturday. Now I'm all caught up and gutted that I have to do ONE EPISODE A WEEK! :o

I've never lasted this long with any show but TWD and American Horror Story are amazing. Im a convert to gore.
