Well it depends doesn't it?

If you're skint then lunch at work, cigarettes, a (potentially unnecessary?) new coat would be unreasonable.

If money's ok, and you're not supposed to be saving for something what's the issue?

iwantgin · 13/10/2014 10:00

Food bill and filling up a car would cost near enough £200 here.

So the rest is just little bits of money that add up.

Are you supposed to be budgeting ?

BrieAndChilli · 13/10/2014 10:02

It depends doesn't it, were the gloves £5 or £50? Did you sped £20 or £100 on cigarettes, was the coat expensive, has it left you short on other stuff? What's your budget supposed to be?

Eva50 · 13/10/2014 10:08

I think it depends on your budget. If you can afford it it's not too much. I have £90 a week "housekeeping" so if I spent £250 in a week we wouldn't be eating for the rest of the month.

DaisyFlowerChain · 13/10/2014 10:17

Depends on your budget but if you are working surely you get to spend your salary on what you like once your share of the bills are paid? If you've spent his salary then not out of line to question the amount.

felttippens · 13/10/2014 10:27

All our money is shared so not necessarily his salary but our money in joint account that I also pay into (although his salary much higher)
We have been very skint before (recently but aren't at the moment )
Coat and hat etc were from Asda and were needed

Does he actually realise how much stuff cost? I asked DH the other day how much he thought our weekly shop cost, he said £40-50 (we are a family of 5) I said more like at least double and he was shocked! He knows I shop around and budget etc so knows I'm not buying steak and champagne.

Rumandcokeplease · 13/10/2014 10:31

My husbands always moaning about how much I spend but between the two of us we spend about £400 a week! (On average!). I'm not sure how it adds up to so much! This is for shopping, fuel for two cars, days/ evenings out, presents etc. It's so much money and I could do with cutting it down -£250 would be a good week for us!

DilligafMyUKIP · 13/10/2014 10:31

Do you need to economise? Packed lunch would be far cheaper

VermillionPorcupine · 13/10/2014 11:01

We have been very skint before (recently but aren't at the moment )

In that case I'd say yabu. He's probably still nervous from the skint period and being careful which is understandable.

DH and I have been really, really skint before. We're not anymore but we're both now over cautious with our money because we never ever want to be in that position again.

My mum rolls her eyes at me searching for bargins, shopping in LIDL and getting clothes from George because we don't need to...but we've been bitten before and I'd rather spend less. Just because you can spend £250 a week doesn't mean you have to.
