Car insurers... cheeky robbing gits!

I bought a new car this week, well when I say new I mean slightly less old but that's not the point.

It is the same make and model as the old car. Only differences are it is 14 years old (old one was 18), red (old one was green), and an HDI instead of TDI. Everything else is the same. My mileage, my NCD, all that.

They want £100 plus a £30 admin charge to cover it for the remaining 6 months of my policy! That's over 1/3 of the cost of the full 12 month policy! But a new quote on their website when logged out is way less than that, hardly any different to what I currently pay.

WTF?

How much will they charge to cancel the policy?

BlueSix · 12/10/2014 21:47

Pay the cancellation fee and get the new policy then?

ring them and complain!! I had this with aviva when I swapped my car - had to pay the Admin charge but they sorted the rest

I had the same problem when I purchased a new car recently. New quotes from other insurers were a LOT cheaper than my existing policy. I had only just renewed the policy on the old car 2 months previously, yet the charge they quoted me to alter the existing policy put it 2/3 times the other quotes. Rang them (Diamond btw) and even they couldn't explain it! Paid the admin charge, cancelled the policy and moved insurers.

It doesn't pay to be loyal to insurers anymore

A friend of mine had a £10,500 quote on gocompare.... I kid you not!

i agree, ring them and tell them, they might reduce it!
