Help!!! Lost loads of photos from iPad

Help I don't really do technology but ages ago, probably about a year ago I downloaded loads of photos from my camera to the ipad. I bought a connector to do it and it seemed to work fine, I was able to view them no problem.

Anyway I have gone to access them now as I am making a photobook of the last three years and they seem to have completely disappeared, a whole holiday of photos have disappeared & Xmas etc.

I upgraded my storage 6 months ago (ish) but I haven't done the most recent IOS upgradey thing.

Any ideas? I've tried googling but I can't seem to find an answer that I understand

Is my iCloud something that I can access to see if they are in there (like I said I know nothing)

Ps I have just checked and my photo stream thing is on - so they should be in the iCloud somewhere? Shouldn't they?

I would update the iOS, that may well rectify it.

Maybe before you do, go into settings, it should tell you when the last back up was done, just so you know you can restore it to where it is now if you need. Sorry, I am on new version of iOS and they have moved the back up section so can't talk you through it but think it's in settings/general.

Check if they're still on your camera.

I would update the iOS, that may well rectify it

That's the last thing I would do...dh updated his I phones ios and lost everything, it wiped his phone back to factory settings...if you google, it's not unheared of when updating. It might make it worse.

Restore from backup?

Vermillion - that's what I was worried about too.
