How did this get published? He's reading a book called 'Mr Ape'.

It's by Dick King Smith and is about a lonely old codger bloke whose wife and children have left him so he gets hold of loads of animals who keep breeding till his house is uninhabitable.

It's not the subject matter. It's the title. WHO gives a book with a title like that to seven year olds? I literally did a double take when he told me what he was reading on the way home.

I know I should probably ignore the inference and move on but every time ds mentions it it sounds like something rather wrong.

Yabu, what on earth is wrong with Apes now?

Bailey101 · 06/10/2014 18:00

I don't if I'm being a bit simple, but I don't get it...........

Letthemtalk · 06/10/2014 18:00

I'm obviously missing something really obvious to you, but what's the problem?

Letthemtalk · 06/10/2014 18:00

Phew not just me then!

SunshineOutdoors · 06/10/2014 18:01

Blatant place mark to find out what op means

IsItMeOr · 06/10/2014 18:01

Um, I think it's just you OP.

I'm assuming you're hearing it as Mr Rape?

Igotafreegoattoo · 06/10/2014 18:01

Eh?

Trills · 06/10/2014 18:01

Is the title on the front page in a dodgy font with the words too lose together,..?

MarmaladeShatkins · 06/10/2014 18:01

Sounds like Mr Rape when you say it out loud?

magicstar1 · 06/10/2014 18:01

It's probably the way the name sounds when the two words are run together?

Bluestocking · 06/10/2014 18:02

Is it because it sounds like Mista Rape when you say it out loud? If so, I think you should calm down.

PuzzleRocks · 06/10/2014 18:02

Reminds me of Nathan Barley's Sugar Ape

dobedobedo · 06/10/2014 18:02

Think the Op doesn't like the Mr ape part. Hmm

ZivaMcGee · 06/10/2014 18:02

I've no idea what the problem with the title is. And I've never heard of the book. But Dick King Smith books are brilliant.

ShatnersBassoon · 06/10/2014 18:02

I think the op think it sounds like rape if you say it out loud. How ridiculous to get worked up about that.

MarmaladeShatkins · 06/10/2014 18:02

Me too, Puzzle! Grin

Floggingmolly · 06/10/2014 18:02

I'm also "ignoring the inference", op, but only because I don't know what it infers...

PinkSquash · 06/10/2014 18:03

You just have to speak proper then innit.

Igotafreegoattoo · 06/10/2014 18:03

Haha you weirdo.

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 06/10/2014 18:03

I don't get it.

Soonish · 06/10/2014 18:03

Sorry. Yes when he says it it sounds like 'Mr Rape'. It just seems like a bad choice of title tbh. I'm sure the author didn't think of it.

Greydog · 06/10/2014 18:03

Oh for goodness sake - read the bloody book - a man named A.P.E Spring-Russell Esquire (known as APE to everyone who knows him) who lives in a grand stately home on his own, until he decides to fill his house with animals.

What's the fuss about. What a stupid, hysterical reaction. Do you read the Daily Fail as well?

UncleSue · 06/10/2014 18:04

Think you might be on your own here.

littlehayleyc · 06/10/2014 18:04

What's wrong with Mr Ape?? I'm confused.. it's the name of the character. what inference??

phantomnamechanger · 06/10/2014 18:05

If it really is that you think it sounds like Mr Rape, then I suggest you learn to speak more slowly and clearly.

I have never heard owt so daft!
