About my stinky carpet

I had my carpets and sofa cleaned by a company, good recommendations and to be fair they did a really good job

In my bedroom I have carpet, and a large rug to hide old stains the company removed the rug, cleaned the carpet then put the rug back down, cleaned the rug, so basically put a wet rug on top of wet carpet

Four days later, It stunk, so I called them and explained the problem and they came back out, re-cleaned the rug, and the carpet, I put the rug outside on the line to dry off for a couple of days. They said they have been using a new shampoo and a couple of their other customers had the same problem. I thanked them and they left

The problem is, a week on and it still stinks, I'm left with lovely clean carpets that smell like wet dog Hmm

Would you call them out again? I'm going to have to replace the carpet unless I can get the smell up which I really can't afford to do

Yanbu to call them out again. In the first place they should not have placed the wet rug on the wet carpet, that's common sense? That damp stinky smell takes forever to go, but I would call them again to redo the carpet.

YANBU, call them again and tell them they either get rid of the smell or replace your carpet

You shouldnt have to do this, but it might work:

Make it damp with either a sponge or a squirty bottle, then sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on, leave it for as long as possible, then hoover it up. This is possibly the most useful thing I have learnt on MN.

is it a wool carpet?
then i ill smell until completely dry.
can you put a dehumidifier in there?

lollipoppi · 05/10/2014 14:24

Mausmaus no idea, it's just normal carpet, it is now completely dry it's been a week since they came back to re-clean

Redexpat, that's a good tip thank you, I will give that a try this week then
