A racist?
Waiting at bus stop with dd2 in her wheelchair and baby, had been to two hospital appointments ( one each) and was on he last leg of a several bus journey. We couldn't board the first two buses as they already had wheelchair space taken up so had been waiting over an hour for the bus, we were first in the queue, as the bus pulled up I had to kind of back up to manoeuvre so other people started boarding including a woman with a toddler and a pram (empty so presumably for the toddler) by the time I got to the front to get on the bus driver said hang on there's a pram, I waited then he said to lady you'll have to fold pram or get off of the bus as wheelchair has priority. She refused saying she had every right as she'd got on first and was very vocal, bus driver to his credit pointed to the signs, politely repeated request and after much huffing puffing and a good five minutes arguing lady dragged toddler off with pram in tow and called me a stupid racist bitch and she shouldn't have to get off for the likes of me.
I was too shocked to speak at the time but now I'm at home thinking about it I'm in tears and really angry with myself, please pass me a grip someone I can't drink wine til 8

Sheesh that was a rant! Sorry

You are both BU and NBU.

You are NBU to be upset by this vile woman. Encounters like that are always unpleasant.

But you are BU to let this woman actually get under your skin. Of course you're not racist. You're just doing what you have to do to ride a bus. Race had nothing to do with it.

She was being a ridiculous nasty bitch and it's entirely her problem. Not yours. I'm sorry you had such an ugly experience.

Vintagejazz · 03/10/2014 17:25

Ignore her and forget about it. You were 100% in the right and she sounds like a foul human being. I'm sure anyone who heard her was as shocked as you and also totally disgusted.

Vitalstatistix · 03/10/2014 17:26

Don't waste a single tear over her.

She wants to chuck names about, that says more about her than it does about you.

She was being stupid and if calling racist for wanting to use a wheelchair space for someone in a wheelchair was all she could do - she knew it too.

CaptainAnkles · 03/10/2014 17:26

She was very rude. Try not to let it upset you. The bus driver asked her to fold it up and that wasn't a good enough solution so she lashed out at you.

What a cowbag, of course she was completely wrong to speak to you like that after she had queue-jumped.
Have a virtual Wine while you wait.

I hope your DCs hospital appts were useful, nothing worse than a wasted day topped off by an entitled are.

MrsCakesPrecognition · 03/10/2014 17:28

Arse.

Pumpkinpositive · 03/10/2014 17:29

I'm sorry that happened. She was out of order and talking out of her arse, but it must have been a horrible experience for you. Thanks

You'll hopefully never have to see her again, but she'll still wake up tomorrow with that personality.

Enjoy your wine! Smile

Purplecircle · 03/10/2014 17:29

YANBU. No question about it. Don't give it another thought. It's bad enough you had to wait so long for a bus!

SanityClause · 03/10/2014 17:31

Noone could blame you for being upset.

You weren't at fault, in any way.

Have some Brew and Cake

nicename · 03/10/2014 17:32

Sadly there are those who will use the 'racist' card where there is absolutely no need/evidence to do so. Its like it trumps every other kind of insult and drops people in their tracks.

She's an idiot and sadly will bring up her kids with that same aggressive entited attitude.

futterwacken · 03/10/2014 17:35

Don’t let it upset you, she sounds incredibly stupid. With people like that I always think having to live in such an angry, bitter little brain is their punishment.

I hope you have a better day tomorrow Flowers

TrendStopper · 03/10/2014 17:58

I probably would have told her to fuck herself and then regretted it because then I would have stooped to her level. I can be quite hot heated and i am getting quite fed up of selfish people. Who the hell thinks they are in the right being on a bus with an empty pushchair when someone with a wheelchair needs to get on.

LeftRightCentre · 03/10/2014 18:16

YANBU

Fooshufflewickbannanapants · 03/10/2014 18:35

Thanks oh wise ones I knew I was being daft letting her get to me, I've just told DH and he said the same as you guys and he knows I'm about the most liberal person on the planet, I've also had hugs from all 6 DC and I can crack open the wine early as DH is doing club pick up yay!!

inloominotnorti · 03/10/2014 18:38

Well someone took her anger out on you! If you didn't say or do anything racist, ignore it.

It's probable she's been called a few names in her time and now transfers her feelings onto random people.

Wine I wouldn't even think about it again Flowers

skylark2 · 03/10/2014 18:46

It's horrible when people are randomly unpleasant to you. I'd have been upset because things like that happening upset me rather than because I feel like it was my fault.

FWIW, I doubt she thought you were a racist for a moment. It was probably just the nastiest thing she could think of to say.

My best guess would be that she doesn't know how to fold the pram and was embarrassed. Not that that excuses anything.

TheRealMaryMillington · 03/10/2014 18:51

Don't let it upset you.
She didn't really think you were racist and no-one else on the bus did either. Maybe she was having a bad day too. Let it go.

Missunreasonable · 03/10/2014 18:51

I have boarded a bus with a child in a wheelchair before and I am non white. I would have expected the trolley to be folded especially as the child wasn't even in it. I wonder what the dipstick woman with the trolley would have called me. Some people need a reality check. Wheelchairs always take priority over an empty toddlers trolley and she is an ignorant fool.
Have some cake and wine and forget about the whole incident.

Penfold007 · 03/10/2014 18:52

Oh what a horrible day, YANBU she the other hand was VVVU and racist. Wheelchairs should always get priority, sometimes folding a buggy is a pain but if the wheelchair space is needed then so be it. The bus driver deserves praise for standing his ground. Hope you are feeling a bit better
