To think they should have declared this to me before visiting?

A few of our relatives visited on Sunday. One of them took a phone call from another member of their family whilst they were here and I overheard them asking how they were feeling today. Once they had finished their phone call, they declared that they'd all had a D&V bug the previous day.
I was a bit Hmm but I didn't think anything else of it until DD (5 months) woke at 3am this morning vomiting and has continued to do so all day. She can't keep her milk down and GP has prescribed up rehydration powder to keep her dehydrated.

AIBU to think that they should have called me first to check I was still happy for them to visit?

YANBU at all. This kind of thoughtless selfishness drives me nuts. Who'd inflict this on a baby?

Poor DD, hope she's over this soon.

Yes they ought to have rung. Most people are kept off work till 48hrs after the symptoms settle.

Of course YANBU, bad manners to visit when still potentially infectious even without a baby, horrible when you have one! I hope she's better soon and it doesn't spread to you!

That is just so selfish. I agree you should tell these thoughtless relatives exactly what they brought with them on their visit.

I'd cancel a visit to a relatives house if I'd had, or been close to someone who'd had, D&V, even without a small baby in the house. I'd hate to think I'd made someone ill.

Hope your DD is better soon.

YANBU, what a stupid and selfish thing to do, especially as you have a baby D and V can be extremely serious for little ones. Hope she's feeling better soon.

How selfish. I invited my patents for lunch on Sunday, but have been ill. I put them off until I was sure I wouldn't pass anything on to them.
I hope dd recovers quickly. Getting rehydration fluids into a lo can be tricky!

YANBU, had relatives visit the other week, whilst here they asked me to look at their baby, did I think the rash was chicken pox as the baby had a temperature and was dosed up with calpol. Nice, why didn't they ring me before they arrived and asked if it was still OK. They seemed to think it was OK as mine have had chicken pox.

So inconsiderate. A friend of mine harped on about a d&v sweeping through her family over the course of a week and eventually got her husband - who she then brought to a children's play centre with all of our toddler group while he was off work!

Three kids came down with it in the following week and that was just from our group.

I'd let them know just how poorly she's feeling so they think next time! Hope your daughter feels better soon.

Absolute fuckwits, I am currently avoiding contact with dc2's friend's mother (because I will lose my rag completely) who sent him to school after being sick, therefore giving it to everyone else.

Yanbu, I would never visit people for at least 48 hours after d&V and definitely not if they had a 5 month old baby. I hope baby is ok, it's v stressful when they can't keep anything down. As orange said I would even ask people before visiting with a cold when there's a small baby involved
