To think these chairs would be uncomfortable very quickly?

So we have a large rectangular oak table. We want to go for quite modern chairs and want to go multi-coloured.

DH really likes The Arne Jacobsen series & chairs

Again, are they only good for the actual meal and then you want to get up?

Any other comfortable, colourful, suggestions are welcome

Thanks

We had those in our library at university (outing myself there!) and they were surprisingly comfortable - you could sit on them quite happily for a whole day of work. But I was 18 then and probably could get comfortable on a rail. Not sure how I'd find them as a 36 year old.

God, I'm now twice as old as I was when I went to university... Thanks for making me realise that, Mum [ wink]

BertieBotts · 22/09/2014 09:04

You could put cushions on them?

PacificDogwood · 22/09/2014 09:05

They are actually v comfortable - good design!

Vitalstatistix · 22/09/2014 09:06

They don't look very comfortable, that's true. Worse that that, they don't look very homey or inviting. It's nice to have a bit of padding and chairs you can relax in.

Your dining room is going to look like a classroom if you have those in it Grin

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 22/09/2014 09:07

I've no idea about the comfort but I love them. Watching for other ideas.

PacificDogwood · 22/09/2014 09:08

Red selection

In terms of comfort I find cantilever chairs are unbeatable

Green Grin

Are looking to have them all one colour or mixed? please do mixed, please do mixed - I was not allowed

traviata · 22/09/2014 09:08

we bought some very similar to these (from a different seller) and they are very comfortable.

The ones you linked to don't seem to have any contouring, they are just flat seats, and I think a gentle curve on a seat makes all the difference. And you can get padded seats in the same shape.

PacificDogwood · 22/09/2014 09:09

Patchwork chair

Damn you, now you made me look!! I've got stuff to do, you know.

MaidOfStars · 22/09/2014 09:11

We have replica Eames DSR chairs (same as ^ but with metal legs) and they are really comfortable. As ^ they are shaped, so that might make a difference.

CurlsLDN · 22/09/2014 09:14

Urgh I've sat on those arne jakobson ones, numb bum! Hate them.

Love the look of the ones traviata linked to, they look comfy plus way more unusual and stylish than the ones your dh chose (sorry dh)

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 22/09/2014 09:14

Pacofic please keep looking. I am benefitting hugely from your procrastination.

OnlyLovers · 22/09/2014 09:17

Marking place. Desperately want some new dining chairs and need inspiration. Pacific, I promise that when I win the lottery and buy new ones, I'll go mixed, for you.

Mum2Pea · 22/09/2014 09:18

oooh thanks all, some good ideas - so pleased to hear they are not 'uncomfortable'

we will be going mixed, 6 colours :-)

PacificDogwood · 22/09/2014 09:20

Yeah, mixed!

Our current chairs are IKEA's finest. In boring tasteful beige

It was a pleasure, but I need to get dressed get going. Toodles!

Clarabell33 · 22/09/2014 09:21

We have the Eames style ones too, a mix of armchair and non-armchair style, and they are surprisingly comfortable. And very easy to keep clean!

NotMrsTumble · 22/09/2014 09:23

Try bluesuntree for cheaper replica eames style chairs. Very comfortable, and we've had ours two years now.

McGlashan · 22/09/2014 09:25

CarmineRose1978 I think I might have gone to the same University as you- but even longer ago. I found them fine then as well.
We are thinking of replacing our diningroom chairs and I might be tempted by those Jacobsen ones.

wonkylegs · 22/09/2014 09:33

They are actually comfortable, I speak as somebody who has the unfortunate combination of a large but bony bottom!
They are shaped well so they work much better than they look.
My dad has some of the most uncomfortable looking designer dining room chairs but they are actually gorgeous to sit in because the designer actually thought about ergonomics rather than just sticking 4 legs, a seat & a back together.

Szeli · 22/09/2014 13:56

we had them at uni and im sorry i found them so uncomfortable. had to sit on one recently too and had to get up after 10 for a stretch - really hurt my back. cushions could fix that i guess

MTBMummy · 22/09/2014 14:17

The first ones are awful, we have them as meeting room chairs at work, I just cannot get comfortable on them, we have plain wood unpadded chairs at home and they don't bother me at all

Workrelatedquestion · 22/09/2014 14:21

The first ones are imitation and not Arnce Jacobson and the second are imitation Arne Jacobson Ant chairs. You probably knew that but just in case.

The original Arne Jacobson Series 7 at www.fritzhansen.com are pretty comfortable. I don't know about the imitations.

CarmineRose1978 · 22/09/2014 14:38

McGlashan, was it somewhere in the East Midlands, perchance?

Mum2Pea · 22/09/2014 17:32

ooh, these look quite nice - what do you think? and might be more comfy on my bottom!

AND they come in many different colours!

Yes, I approve.

girlFRI3 · 29/04/2015 09:49

Looking at cult furniture Xavier Pauchard chairs but can`t find any
customer reviews. Tolix chairs on Amazon but all say "be the first to review".
Anyone any idea whether or not these are comfortable ?
