Give us an edit post button

I know it not just me that gets the rage when they see a small mistake or a stupid iPad correction in their post but don't want to clutter the thread with extra correction posts.

As a bonus to them they would have less reported posts due to people being able to correct things themselves.

YABU.

Justkeepsmiling1 · 21/09/2014 16:47

Ooh I agree! I thought I was just being daft and not able to figure out how to edit. It's driving me barmy when I make a mistake and can't correct it.

elQuintoConyo · 21/09/2014 16:51

Isn't that what the preview button is for?

And surely everyone can see it's a fat finger/autocorrect error? Everybody makes them.

LifesUPandLifesDOWN · 21/09/2014 16:53

No I don't think they should because then someone who was getting a flaming could go back and change their post and back track. Or if they do then they should show edit history.

CatsCantTwerk · 21/09/2014 16:54

Preview before posting. its quite simple :)

Writerwannabe83 · 21/09/2014 16:54

I think there should be - but you can only edit within 5 minutes of posting. That way people can't start altering their posts to back track or to enable them to deny having said something by deleting it at a later time.

ScrambledeggLDCcakeBOAK · 21/09/2014 16:59

cats I do use it but a lot of times I still miss it Blush

writer that's a good idea as it would sort the cons of editing so to speak.

It drives me barmy too, I'm not what you would call a perfectionist but sometimes I'd really like to sort spelling or just occasionally reshuffle a sentence so it makes more sense.

lifes showing an edit history would work in that regard too.

I'd like an edit button too. The time limit idea sounds good.

ILoveTurnips · 21/09/2014 17:03

Yabu, it doesn't work well. I use other forums with this feature and it just makes things confusing. I am always making typos. I just post an apology for the thread police and a Blush

usualsuspect333 · 21/09/2014 17:06

I agree. A timed edit would be useful.

Every other forum I've been on seems to have one.

abigamarone · 21/09/2014 17:06

I second this, gives a chance to correct typos, but less chance of a rethink hours later. I find corrections a few posts later quite irritating.

usualsuspect333 · 21/09/2014 17:07

And ain't no body got time to preview every post.

ScrambledeggLDCcakeBOAK · 21/09/2014 17:12

For me it's worse since using the iPad as sometimes the auto correct changes the whole sentence (by replacing a word) rather than it looking like a typo!

ScrambledeggLDCcakeBOAK · 21/09/2014 17:14

usual

Haha. Ain't nobody got time for that. In the cut from russel Howard's good news.

Sometimes it helps (spelling etc sometimes it's obvious what you mean but not always). But sometimes it makes things worse.

A forum I was a member of had members who would forever go back and edit the posts they had made into something else entirely. It was beyond annoying. If disagreed with they could randomly delete posts. It was one of the reasons I left - it wasn't only one person doing this, nor was it everyone but enough to make reading threads almost impossible if you hadn't been on them from the beginning. And before anyone mentions moderators, they got just as bad editing things as well. In the end I had enough and left.

Apparently these were adults Hmm moderators weren't much better either!

I would edit, spelling or if I'd posted something too personal but it was rare. Generally I can't be bothered!

Here I try and use the preview button. Of course that requires me to remember to use it! Grin

Becca19962014 · 21/09/2014 17:19

Oh and the timed feature never worked properly on that site. I've no idea how but people did find ways around it too much time on their hands

MelanieCheeks · 21/09/2014 17:23

Perview is my fiend.

usualsuspect333 · 21/09/2014 17:25

By the time you have previewed the thread has moved on and someone else has said what you wanted to say.
