AIBU to expect a prize my DH won

Just picked up a very excited DH from the football. He bought a programme which has a golden ticket printed inside so he'd won a signed match day shirt. It said to go pick it up after the game so off we went back to town with our equally excited two year old son.

We get to reception and the guy just said no you haven't won, it's a misprint and there's over 100 golden tickets by mistake so he can't have one. DH is gutted and my two year old is now asking for a shirt (grrrr wish I hadn't told him).

Currently typing an gentle email to say this can't be fair. DH just wants any shirt now not bothered about a signed one.

Just wanted to rant really! I knew I hated football.

Surely they must honour it. Time for a sad face photo in the local rag!

You'd think wouldn't you? It's a prem league team so hopefully an email will do the trick.

I would be seriously ticked off. 100 is a low enough number to honour it. It's a rich Prem club so tough tits.

I do have a photo of my son holding the 'winning' programme looking very excited, I'll have to do an after photo!

We'll see what the first email brings. Not sure I can cope with the DH moping around and ranting for much longer.

If it's a big rich club they should honour it. Oh, and if they don't, name and shame them and they'll wish they had honoured it.

If it's a local league amateur team then I'd let them off.

YANBU. I enter a lot of competitions, with reasonable success and am signed up to a few comping forums.

The general advice in this situation is to politely email and ask them to honour it.
Mention that you are going to contact one of the following:

CAP: Committee of Advertising Practice - www.cap.org.uk

I would visit each site first to see which investigates the closest to this situation.

Also contact your local newspaper - they love a disappointed toddler pic.

If all else fails, name and shame on Twitter. It's a very quick and VERY public way of reaching a lot of people very quickly.

I reckon you will have your shirt by the end of the week.

In fact, a quick search of Twitter later I reckon I know which club it is. Are they based in the North East, OP?
If so, seems your DH isn't alone.

Thanks IBSjob87 that's really useful. We work at a local council so might go and ask someone we know in Trading Standards for some advice on Monday. Fingers crossed the gentle email will work, they are generally a nice supporter friendly club.

Oh I've been keeping my eye on Facebook but not on Twitter. Yes that'll be us damn hoping there weren't too many of us.

I'd inform them false advertising is illegal. Their mistake, they deal with it. But it's in print so they need to honor it.

An account on Twitter is saying the ticket printed in the programme is an example but there should be an actual golden ticket (loose) in a programme. If that makes sense. They admit it wasn't very clear.

Yeah I've read that, it's clear as mud. No where in the programme does it mention a separate ticket inside and no where does it say it's an example below. There's no terms and conditions anywhere.

Never mind though DH feels less disappointed knowing it's widespread but more angry that the club have been idiots again. Football eh? Sparks so much passion

They could afford to give everyone there a free shirt and should honour it.

That's totally unacceptable! Definitely pursue it and make a fuss about it, really poor!
