to think air conditioning is the work of the devil

At work people love the air con , to me it makes the room stale, smelly and a burnt smell. Is causing havoc on my skin - having to moisturize during the day and giving me a bad throat. Aibu to request it is turned off and the windows opened?

Sounds like there's something wrong with the system, tbh. We don't have any of those problems with the air conditioning at work.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 20/09/2014 15:27

System needs to be checked. I live in the land of air conditioning (Florida) and have it at home and at work with no problems. But systems need to be maintained and serviced regularly.

Yes!! I hate aircon at work when you can have nice fresh air from the windows! I actually find opening a window masks it if they wont turn it off it stops it working as it should Wink

Try living in a hot country and you'll soon change your mind! Grin
But your work one doesn't sound right at all - sounds like it needs something done to it/maintenance/fixing.

I live in the desert and couldn't manage without air conditioning during the summer months. I have it on at home day and night and don't have any of the problems you mention. It sounds like there is something wrong with the system if the air smells burnt and stale. It probably needs a service.

Although if it is cool enough outside for the windows to be opened to let fresh air in then I would prefer that.

sarahighseas · 20/09/2014 18:08

Well someone comes every month to service it, that generally just meqms they brush it quickly. Something must be wrong as never had such problems in an office.

Lol I would never live in the desert as it would waste too much energy!

I hate it too it's too dry I think this bothers some people but not others I don't think you are being unreasonable

specialsubject · 20/09/2014 22:19

needed in less pleasant countries, but in the UK aircon is the sign of a badly designed building. Like most commercial premises, sadly.

sarahighseas · 21/09/2014 07:43

Yes its super dry, why it causes havoc on my skin

I feel your pain op. My office manager feels the heat badly, and as soon as the sun comes out the aircon goes on.

Unfortunately there is no unit in her office, so the receptionists sit there in our jumpers while she sits in her office with the door open hoping to feel some benefit. I hate it. Hmm

WhereHas1999DissappearedToo · 21/09/2014 07:54

Oh I hate air con, our air con is broken so it does great big waves of fresh air every 10 minuets or so, so me and other people who are near it have to wear jacketsHmm

Boss hates having the windows open as I work on the closing of a motorway and apparently it makes to much noise and the blinds rattle from the wind. Nothing beats fresh air!
