My son only started reception just over a week ago and last night he wouldn't settle to sleep but he didn't go to bed with a cold but it must have been coming on. He has some language delay so cannot always tell me how he feels.

In the end i put him in my bed and he was restless all night at one point screaming for over half an hour and thrashing about. I could tell then that he couldn't breath and he sounded hoarse so assumed he had a sore throat too. I smothered him in vicks. He was like this most of the night i think we saw every hour of the night.

This morning i can't wake him because he has hardly had any sleep everytime i go to wake him he is crying so i have left him and i am keeping him off.

I didn't really want him to miss school just for a cold as he has only just started to settle as apart from the last couple of days we have had tears every day. Do you think i am doing the right thing keeping him off? Sorry if it seems an obvious question but he is my eldest so this is all new to me! I'm hoping to send him tomorrow if he is more rested.

Keep him off, lots of fluids and rest. He will probably bounce back tomorrow. He's hardly GCSE year is he! Grin

Keep him home. He's just a small boy and he's not well. Best place is at home being cared for.
