That we should indeed all be independent?

With Scotland voting today, I think Wales and Northern Ireland should also be able to vote on independence. I would personally love to see Charles and Camilla as Heads of State for Wales instead of the Queen, who let's be honest is past her best. Scotland could have Wills and Kate, and Harry could have NI given he's a ginger and all that.

Notagainmun · 18/09/2014 07:46

NO! I am Welsh I want to stay British thank you. I hope Scotland votes no today because I don' want Wales following a few years down the line. Welsh nationalists want independence without thinking it through. Financially we would be screwed without the rest of Britain.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 18/09/2014 08:13

What?!
If I lived in any of their places if vote for independence to get rid of the monarchy not have off strands of it!

seasavage · 18/09/2014 09:20

So, no gingers in an independent England? Huh?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/09/2014 09:23

I agree. Anyone should be allowed to vote for independence. Be it Scotland, Shetland, Wales or Yorkshire...

ajandjjmum · 18/09/2014 09:23

How rude. Would you like others to refer to your elderly relatives as 'past their best'.

Bowlersarm · 18/09/2014 09:24

What about England having a vote on independence?

ajandjjmum · 18/09/2014 09:50

Read comments like the OP Bowlers, and you think 'yes', I'd vote for an independent England. Then you realise that idiots only make up a small part of the population, and I actually prefer being part of a group of nations.

Unless of course, it's a joke?

idunnonuthing · 18/09/2014 09:55

No way is the Queen past it! I'd like to see some younger people manage to walk up some steps, lay a wreath and walk down backwards and in heels without faltering!
She's the best Monarch we've ever had.

idunnonuthing · 18/09/2014 09:57

Harry could have NI given he's a ginger and all that.

welshgirl, you will have all the stop being racist towards me because I'm ginger lot on your back! Grin

jammytoast · 18/09/2014 10:10

Well, aside from the ridiculous OP, the notion of us all being independent is silly.

I think the real issue is that England should have a devolved government, and there should be a UK Government that is actually voted for by all parts of the UK.

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/09/2014 10:12

Yabu.

It really worries me that there are fellow Welsh people think that Wales could function as an independent nation. Makes me worried for their intelligence.

Flexly · 18/09/2014 10:14

Really?! Good luck with that then. YABU

Marmiteandjamislush · 18/09/2014 10:57

I am English and want to be independent, why do you not give England the option?

welshgirlhk · 19/09/2014 02:29

Oh, I didn't really mean the Queen is past it, but we do need to think ahead and share the family around a bit. She always looks impeccable. Love her.

The Prince of Wales becoming King of Wales with Queen Camilla would be quite cool. It worries me that fellow Welsh people don't think we would be smart enough on our own though. Are the English that special? In any case my point was just that people would feel more empowered and connected if they had more referendums like this.

Nothing against gingers BTW, but there are a lot in Ireland so Harry would feel right at home. And he's a catch so NI would be happy to have him.

'Are the English that special?'

Is the Pope a Catholic?

BritabroadinAsia · 19/09/2014 04:12

I think it really depends on who Harry ends up with, though. Agree he is an attractive proposition on his own, but would NI actually want Chelsy/Cressida/whoever? This needs thinking through a bit more, welshgirlhk

ScrambledeggLDCcakeBOAK · 19/09/2014 04:45

I think Scotland could rival Ireland in the ginger category!

In regards to the rest of it I'm staying well out Iv got enough on with the Scotland vote

browneyedgirl86 · 19/09/2014 05:23

I agree with Jazz. I would vote for independence if it meant getting rid of the monarchy full stop.

FoxgloveFairy · 19/09/2014 05:47

Wouldn't Wales and Northern Ireland being independent mean no royal family? Just askin'! I would also think that funding health, education, defense, policing etc might be a bit difficult without English support too. Careful what you wish for sums it up for me.It is a matter for the countries concerned though, obviously.
