... to dislike my mother.

Today is my birthday. She rang me up and asked me how old I was. (Perhaps mothers are supposed to keep track of this. Perhaps not.)

I told her that I was 55 today.

She laughed and said, 'Nearly 60 then.'

My parents used to make jokes about my age. I used to remind them of how old that made them, and the fact that I am their youngest child.

Happy birthday OP. Enjoy your day and don't let your mother get to you Cake Thanks Wine

Mine was full of the joys of evil on the phone today, having found out that what she suspected was the case with my brother's awful MIL was actually true Grin

Clutterbugsmum · 12/09/2014 16:32

Didn't you ask had she forgotten as she was their, and perhaps you should start looking for homes who look after people with dementia Grin.

Mine won't even pick up the phone to me even though she is clearly in as seems to be clicking like to every piece of shit post on Facebook.

On my 21st my dad sent me a card says "9 years till your 30!", then when I was 26 a card that said "you are closer to 30 than 20!".
I no longer have contact with him.

My MIL thought I was turning 30 on the run up to my 29th, but she made it up to me, the only 30 in my card was the good kind that buys lots of wine! Hence we still see MIL. Wink

Happy Birthday! It's my birthday today too and the message I got from my mother for my birthday was 'Happy Birthday Thatoneoverthere- you are now pretty old'.

I'm not entirely sure why I like the woman:P

Marylou2 · 12/09/2014 17:33

Happy Birthday! Is this a one off comment from your mum or does she have "form"? Definitely don't save her any cake.

Canyouforgiveher · 12/09/2014 19:00

If you are 55, your mother must be at least 70 and possibly older. Would you not be worried that her not knowing your age is a sign of confusion or dementia, rather than getting offended by it?

FoxgloveFairy · 14/09/2014 21:10

Happy Birthday Mariannesolong! Cake You should have said "but still so much younger than you, Mummy dearest!" and giggled.

MarianneSolong · 14/09/2014 21:11

Indeed I should have done! Perhaps next year?
