To be enraged by teenage PDA?

Just got stuck behind two youths in the queue Sports Direct - overtly tonguing each other and rubbing themselves up against each other for the duration of the wait. I felt distinctly uncomfortable witnessing such intimacy between two strangers at close range - like some kind of perve or reticent third member of a ménage a trois. I find it pretty revolting if I'm honest. I don't see the need for it and find it disrespectful, especially if you are trapped next to it in a queue or, say, on a train. Am I just a miserable and embittered (potentially jealous) person - or is it indeed, rude? Or perhaps I'm just afflicted with awkward Britishness. I noted they weren't British, so maybe we are just more uptight over here.

I can't stand PDA, it turns my stomach!

seasavage · 09/09/2014 17:35

Maybe they're trying to get famous on YouTube?

squoosh · 09/09/2014 17:35

Hmmm, now I quite fancy indulging in a bit of heavy petting in front of a Sports Direct till.

Ah yes, the heady smell of trainers, sporty machismo, sullen cashiers and sweat. Enough to turn any girl's head.

Greyhound · 09/09/2014 17:35

Yuk, that's gross.

JuniorMumber · 09/09/2014 17:46

It's not an age thing because I never did that as a teenager. I PDA'd a lot in night clubs and bars, but never in stark daylight right in front of people.

Honestly, I was close to asking them to refrain - would that have been acceptable? Obviously they would have told me to piss off, but just to make a point.

Public display of affection! I knew it couldn't be personal digital assistant.

Vitalstatistix · 09/09/2014 17:55

I hate it when people do that. I once got trapped behind two people who I feared at any moment would actually rip each others clothes off and give me a live porn show.

I was very british at first as I pretended it simply wasn't happening but eventually I muttered "gosh, it sounds like she tastes nice". If they heard me, they never showed it.

DoJo · 09/09/2014 17:59

You may not have, but the overwhelming majority of the culprits are teenagers when it comes to this sort of thing and I'm sure they will probably grow out of it. YANBU to find it distasteful or to mention to them that you would prefer to queue for your items without the risk of accidentally getting caught up in their clinch!

Bulbasaur · 09/09/2014 18:00

Depends, if it looks like they could easily start dry humping any minute, it's probably not ok.

But I don't see any problem with making out, kissing, holding hands, etc...

You can show PDA while still being cute and family appropriate.

worsethannicotine23 · 09/09/2014 18:00

This is one of my pet hates!! I was once stuck on bus for an hour with an amorous french couple sat in front of me for the duration. The face sucking was unbearable! Envy

wigglesrock · 09/09/2014 18:02

It never bothers me, I feel quite nostalgic when I see teenagers in that unable to stop kissing, touching each other kind of way. I probably kissed my then boyfriend for hours at bus stops, outside the cinema etc when I was 17.

IAmNotAPrincessIAmAKahleesi · 09/09/2014 18:03

I can see your point but I quite like seeing it, my reaction is usually ahh the joys of youth rather than eww get a room Grin

LadyFairfaxSake · 09/09/2014 18:43

OP, they're horny teenagers, the last thing on their minds is "respecting" some random behind them.
PDA is ok, we were all young once. Excessive PDA can be a bit much. Trouble is, every generation thinks that they invented sex & that nobody currently older than them was ever young once themselves.

IfNotNowThenWhen · 09/09/2014 18:54

I find a dousing with a bucket of water and immediate enrollment to a Military Academy of my choosing to be the best remedy for THIS sort of thing!

IfNotNowThenWhen · 09/09/2014 18:55

I wish I could sign all manner of scrotes up to a military academy. I'm off to do the "am I a Fascist" quiz on Facebook.

Fubsy · 09/09/2014 18:56

If I'm in the car and see this, I HAVE to make slurping water down the plughole noises. I haven't quite had the nerve to do it in front of someone, but it will definitely happen if I catch Dd doing any PDAs Grin

Beautifullymixed · 09/09/2014 19:08

If I had the misfortune to be standing behind them in the queue, I would hope I had my ds7 and ds10 with me.
The loud cos they are unable to whisper ever giggles, disgusting and ughhhhhs that would have erupted would have killed any romance dead. Grin

GoringBit · 09/09/2014 19:45

I've never quite got over a morning commute sitting opposite a loved-up (probably mid-30s couple), at one pint she commented that he'd got toast crumbs at the corner if his mouth and then licked them off.

phone/typo inevitability. Angry

Fubsy · 09/09/2014 19:51

Goring Shock

I really need a Happy Vomiter smiley for that!

HappyAgainOneDay · 09/09/2014 19:55

What's PDA, please?

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 09/09/2014 20:00

not just teenagers

i was once unfortunate enough to witness a couple in a cafe in the middle of covent garden snogging - mid forties

except they were sitting opposite each other with her legs between his and rubbing each others legs energetically. and it wasn't snogging - it was open mouthed tongue fighting. No one should have to see that

there was a group of teenagers staring open mouthed in horror. bet they posted an AIBU 'to be outraged at middle aged PDA's in the middle of a cafe!!!'

Catsmamma · 09/09/2014 20:01

I'd want to say something ....

"oooh no....that's never the right way..." with a sharp intake of breath

or

"you'll get germs!"

NoodleOodle · 09/09/2014 20:02

Aw, I'm in the it's cute camp.
