To think this is a strangely naive concept from Thomas Cook

As a reward for ordering my travel money from Thomas Cook they gave me a 'Tag & Track' Passport.

What you have to do is peel off the 4 stickers inside the passport and attach them to items you wish to protect such as your phone, tablet, passport etc. You then register the Tag & track passport. This is supposed to deter theft somehow and/or help you get your lost item back!

But truly how the heck do they reckon it's going to work? Someone nicks your phone, sees the sticker and thinks "Oooooh Nooooooo, this is registered with Thomas Cook's Tag & Track. Now what am I going to do".

Do they really think people are not going to just peel the stupid sticker straight off? This is either really stupid or I'm missing something here.

There are some honest people. If I seen the sticker I would contact Thomas cook to reunite the owner with their stuff.

you are supposed to put it somewhere discreet a.k.a take the battery out phone/laptp etc, put on the inside then put battery back in. we use this sort of thing to track equipment whilst such as radios (walkie talky type) and quad bike or tractor keys too.

It's probably more if you lose something and someone honest finds it. Also thieves can steal your wallet, take the cash and then just ditch the wallet with cards etc.

But yes I agree, not a huge help!

I can't see how it would help with stolen items, but it might help with lost ones. Even then though, only if the honest person who finds it knows what the fuck a tag and track sticker is.

If it's somewhere discreet, how is anyone going to know to scan the sticker or do whatever it is they do?

I don't get it.

Woo That's what I thought. I was thinking to stick one on the inside of my phone cover but then how would the person who finds the phone know to take the back off and look?

So really it only stands a chance of being useful if a) someone nice like Piper finds it and b) they know to dismantle the item in case there's a sticker in it. I wonder how much success they've had with this scheme.

i have an ordinary sticker inside my precious belongings with my home phone number on in the hope that if i lost anything they could be reunited if an honest person found them. Not sure what a tag and trace adds to this tbh
