To ask for your recommendations for luxury spa break in north west

I'm planning ahead majorly as I need something to look forward too! Next Jan is both mine & DH birthday so the plan is to go to and visit GPs in the northwest and leave the 1 & 3yr old with them for a couple of nights and have a well earned break.

I really seem to be struggling - aby recommrndations. i wiukd like a bit of luxury as it will be our first break wuthout kids. near good restaurant or in house restaurant and maybe a spa (just in case it's too rainy & cold to leave the hotel).

Help - have you anywhere you can recommend in the north west/ north Wales/ Peak District region?

The Lowry in Manchester is lovely. Haven't had their spa treatments but I bet they're good.

Upsy1981 · 07/09/2014 20:05

Formby Hall is nice and sometimes have good deals if you can do mid week.

chipsandpeas · 07/09/2014 20:06

ribby hall which is at preston is apparently good, never been but my mate raves about it

Carden park nr Chester is a lovely macdonald hotel with a fabulous spa, can also recommend doubletree Hilton in Chester, fantastic hotel and spa...guess where I live Wink

hellsbells99 · 07/09/2014 20:06

Doubletree in Chester so you can do lots of shopping, eating and drinking!

gobbynorthernbird · 07/09/2014 20:28

Seconding the Lowry. Manchester House is near and is awesome (also does a lunch deal on a weekday & Saturday), plus lots of other great bars and restaurants. Or find an hotel with an offer (Gt John St/Chester Grosvenor) and look at nearby spa stuff.

Mere spa near knutsford.

Mj41 · 07/09/2014 20:33

The Spa Hotel at Ribby Hall is fantastic - great onsite restaurants too :)

gobbynorthernbird · 07/09/2014 20:36

Trucking, Mere is great, but there's nothing else within walking distance.

Ribby hall is lovely

Have a look at the Woodland Spa in wait for it... Burnley. It is fantastic, has rooms, lovely restaurant. Near pendle hill for fantastic walks, other lovely restaurants near too.

I've been to Ribby Hall. Enjoyed my stay but wouldn't call it luxury. Bit like a downmarket centreparcs with loads of kids around which doesn't sound what the op wants. Agree Formby Hall and Doubletree Chester nice. Most of the major hotels in Liverpool and Manchester will have good in house restaurants and spas with the benefit of proximity to the city centre as well.

Flissypix · 07/09/2014 21:15

Another recommendation for Formby hall but not much to do. I like Ribby hall but the staff are rude. Love Crabtree manor in Chester which is close enough to Liverpool to spend the day.

Cranleigh House Hotel is supposed to be lovely.

Flissypix · 07/09/2014 21:16

Sorry I meant Crabwell Manor.

Sundaysmumisfullofwine · 07/09/2014 21:35

The radisson in Manchester has a lovely spa.

Losehill house in Hope in the Peak District - check out trip advisor - amazing place :)

Hatetidyingthehouse · 07/09/2014 22:23

Center parcs do one day or overnight spa breaks. Loved the Sherwood Forest one and whinfell center p is lovely even though I've not been to the spa there
