Nearly out of date

That my sister should have thought that nearly out of date chocolates (which I saw in the clearance in tesco) which are mostly white middles or shell is an inappropriate birthday present for my 30th when she knows I'm allergic to white chocolate.

I would have put it down to a mistake but the other present was a book I saw in the pound shop (so she prob saw any got it there too) about a comedian neither of us had ever shown the slightest interest in.

I sort of feel she obviously couldn't care less

Perhaps she is skint?

AuditAngel · 07/09/2014 16:44

Are you related to me? I have a sister who tends to do this. That said, at the moment she is temping and I would prefer she didn't buy me anything than something I don't like.

LadyLuck10 · 07/09/2014 16:46

Yanbu, she chose cheap gifts for a significant birthday. She could have got you many things that don't cost a lot but she didn't put much thought into this.

MrsMonkeyBear · 07/09/2014 16:46

My sister does this to me too!!! One year I got a pile of shite stuff that didn't sell on her ebay account!!!

ScrambledeggLDCcakeBOAK · 07/09/2014 16:47

No she's not, she's always been a bit tight with money (happy to spend loads on her but not on others) but that's of course her prerogative it is her money after all. it's not so much about the money (I'm not very materialistic) as much it's that she has obviously seen the stuff and thought to herself that'll do.

I just feel like she's put no thought or care into it and the fact it was cheap helped sway the decision.

I'm with you, for my 21st my DB bought me an ornament similar to this but from a very cheap shop so a cheap version, lol!!

ScrambledeggLDCcakeBOAK · 07/09/2014 16:59

Thanks guys I know it's small in the scheme of things but you know...

And not to play tit for tat but she had a significant birthday too this year I got her a bottle of fizz and had some champagne flutes engraved for her, I thought it would be a nice way to "mark" the big birthday.

I'm curious about how you can be allergic to just white chocolate. What is it that is in white chocolate that isn't in plain or dark? Is there something I should know about?

You could always say to her 'lets both save our money and not bother about presents in the future unless its a big birthday'.

Iconfuseus · 07/09/2014 17:11

Some people are just terrible at buying gifts. There is no malice behind it, they are just totally clueless.

Do you think this might be part of her problem?

MammaTJ · 07/09/2014 18:36

Maybe she has major money troubles that she hasn't shared with you?

ScrambledeggLDCcakeBOAK · 07/09/2014 18:42

Iv no idea but after a couple of quite bad reactions the doctor told me not to eat it again.

No she really doesn't have any money troubles, she's not mega rich but has no bills to speak of except phone really.

Anyway thanks again. I'm not upset really I just wondered what people thought and it turns out it's not just my sibling who is like that

YANBU, I don't mind what people spend if its a thoughtful gift.

But to buy you something you are allergic to isn't nice at all.

VeryThelma · 07/09/2014 18:48

I can't remember the last time I had a gift of my brother it's certainly years.

It was my birthday on Friday he goes to Portugal for a week on Saturday.

At least she got you something?
