To want to find some jeans that fit

I'm a fairly average size 12, I have slim hips and legs and a bit of a tummy but I wouldn't say I was an unusual shape or size so why the hell can't I get any jeans to fit me? Over the past few years I have tried jeans in Next, Oasis, Dorothy Perkins - all too big on the hips.
New Look, Topshop, Warehouse, River Island, Asda & Sainsburys - all fit well on the legs but too tight on the waist or if I get the next size up the waist is ok but the legs are too baggy.
A friend said the Gok ones in Sainsburys are good as they have lots of Lycra. This is true, tried some on, they looked great and were cheap so I bought some. Wearing them for first time today and they keep falling down.
I see plenty of people wearing well-fitting jeans so is it just me?
Is it too too much to ask that one shop might sell some that fit?? The only comfy ones I've had were my maternity jeans. Would it be weird to just wear them when not pregnant?!

I have the opposite. Jeans are too small on the arse and too big on the waist for me.

Wanna swap some?

Pointlessfan · 04/09/2014 11:49

Great idea! Where are yours from?

I have chunky hips and thighs but slim lower legs and ankles, so I can't get skinny jeans to fit properly. They're either great on my calves but won't slide up over my bum or the button and look like straight-legged jeans from the knee down. I mostly wear tights and dresses Grin

cherrybombxo · 04/09/2014 11:56

Or THEY button, not "the"

SistersOfPercy · 04/09/2014 11:58

Primark skinnies are the best thing in the world ever. Prior to discovering these things I was paying £25 for a pair of Dotties ones. The elastic in them just gives them the bit of extra stretch needed to be comfortable Grin

I have the same problem as Saucy Jack - hips nearly 2 sizes bigger than waist. Best ones I've found at the moment are the M&S Perfect Sculpt. Loads of stretch, so I can buy them in a 12 instead of the 14 I usually have to go for if I'm to have any chance of getting them up my legs.

They aren't perfect - still dip down a bit at the back of the waistband because of insufficient arse-allowance in the cut, but being able to get the smaller size means they are the only ones that don't gape at the waist or need constant hoicking up.

I know you're the other way round shapewise, but the stretch may mean they work for you. Otherwise go old-school and get braces.

ChickenMe · 04/09/2014 12:33

You sound like you have the same figure as me-I think my legs are too slim (in the clothes manufacturers' minds) for my stomach. So something which fits around the waist will=baggy legs and bum.
I have had reasonable success in the last with Pepe jeans. Was going to say Tu leggings. But you didn't get on with them. Most of the time I wear normal leggings now. Sod jeans, I have had enough they always fall down or are camel's toe. I have some jeggings from primark that are ok.

ChickenMe · 04/09/2014 12:36

Think jeans are easier if you are pear or hour glass. I'm a bit of an apple, or would be if I didn't work out? Never had much of a waist! What about shops catering for teenagers as they tend to be more "straight up and down". I generally find cheaper jeggings better.

Pointlessfan · 04/09/2014 15:46

Some good suggestions here, I might give teenager ones a try. Also glad to hear it's not just me that has trouble! Thank you all.

Don't shop in GAP. They are the only ones that fit my enormous arse and smaller waist.

IDismyname · 04/09/2014 15:53

I'd try jeans from NYDJ - not cheap, but they do the trick on the waist/ bum/ leg ratio and make you look smaller, too!

I'm an apple too. Find Oasis and H&M jeggings much better than their jeans and good quality too; last ages if washed inside out.

Overcooked · 04/09/2014 16:01

Jeans - you must spend money on good jeans, cheap ones will always look cheap. However, if you find a good pair of expensive ones they will last forever.

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 04/09/2014 16:04

Try an independent jeans shop. Theres one near me - you walk in and the sales assistant eyes you up, trots off and brings back jeans that fit.

I personally am anti stretch. I think jeans are comfier and fall down less without it.

SquirrelledAway · 04/09/2014 16:05

I like the M&S Per Una Roma jeans, some of those have the perfect sculpt thingy too.

Elisheva · 04/09/2014 16:07

Have you tried men's jeans? They're a completely different shape.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 04/09/2014 16:09

Perhaps jeans don't really fit anyone? I'm pear shaped and really struggle with jeans, and find that Gap especially are hopeless.

My current favourites are some 19.50 indigo skinnies from M&S but stock levels, especially in a size 12 are appalling.

YouTheCat · 04/09/2014 16:13

Buy a belt?

leedy · 04/09/2014 16:14

I think shopping for jeans is painful regardless of your shape. A lot of jeans seem to assume that people are shaped like tubes.

I'm a pear and like NYDJ as well, weirdly enough, even though I've heard they're good for apples too. Maybe they're just a very forgiving cut/fabric. Also like J Brand Photo Ready ones but they are tres pricey so can only buy in the sales.

Maybe I can remove some of my billowing waistflaps and swap them for your billowing arsebags?

MrsWinnibago · 04/09/2014 16:26

I find that only skinny jeans look any good now. My arse shows in low slung ones because my tummy sticks out...making everything fall down.

PunkHedgehog · 04/09/2014 17:00

"Think jeans are easier if you are pear or hour glass."

Hahahahahaha. Hahaha. Ha. Ha.

No.
