I was contacted by a woman I used to go to school with on facebook, we were not friends (although had a lot of classes together) and on the 3 occasions I've seen her since leaving we're said hi to each other at most.

She asked me to give her advice on how she could move to the US as she had seen photos of me living there. I advised her of the options, what type of visa was needed and that I have a couple of contacts out there. It was quite a longish email.

I suppose she didn't like what I had to say as it's extremely hard to move there if you don't have a job, or have an immediate relative or married to a citizen. But aibu to think she could at least have replied to say - thank you?

You would hope so wouldn't you. Suppose if it's only been a week or two she might just have been busy/away and will get round to thanking you in due course. Having said that my SIL asked my advice on something on fb a while ago, I sent quite a lengthy message and when saw a reply assumed she would be thanking me. No - she'd taken the hump at something I'd said by inferring that I meant something I obviously didn't! (Allegedly took offence -not sure I believe she wasn't just looking for it)! So hopefully you'll get the thanks you deserve, if you don't, she might not mean to be rude, but it's no loss to you.

Yes she should, lived in the USA myself and it was only by people being blunt before we moved over that saved us a fortune when DH was made redundant.
Long story short still have a lovely house over there rented out.
Just brought it after a year over there on perm contract, got wind after 18 months redundancies coming up, after 2 years Dhs company would automatically support your green card application but it could take a couple of years, but once they supported they would not support you going home either by your or their choice. Dh shot off an email saying he knew the 2 year cut off and felt due to current climate (this was 2009) he couldn't commit and had previously move departments which made emigration wise his case a essential worker even weaker (he had also a bullying boss)
And if made redundant you had 30 days to leave the country, they did right by Dh but it was a stressful few days of flight after flight being cancelled due to snow in the UK, thank you Air France and BA managers for getting us on that flight long overdue thank you.

Don't give it another thought. I had a PM on here once asking me to advise another Mumsnetter on how to complete a certain craft project. I took time to explain the process and which products to use and didn't get anything back!

Some people aren't brought up correctly.

This has happened to me a few times in different situations. It's especially galling because the lack of response makes you feel almost slightly foolish for putting so much effort into trying to help someone.

And it's not even unsolicited advice! Gah, I'm getting annoyed all over again.
