I don't know where else to post this, I am an a**e on the drink. Tonight I have even sickened myself. I don't WANT to stop drinking but I have to, for health reasons. I just wanted affirmation that this is the right thing to do, I don't know how to do it but I need to. If I know I,ve had enough, it's enough isn't it???

bouncingbelle that is a lot. How often do you drink like that?
How often do you drink generally?

Bouncing - I don't think it matters what you call it (alcoholic, alcohol dependent etc), but if you are unable to control it and feel it controls you then you have a problem.

Someone unthread suggested stopping gradually. I accept that would be a good idea in theory, but misses the key point which is that once you start you can't stop. That powerlessness over alcohol is the problem.

In my experience, the only way to deal with it is total abstinence. As I said before, I would really recommend you contact AA (the helpline or find a local meeting - check website and enter your postcode).

I think you must know that the amount you are drinking is not normal. Good luck!

Just to suddenly stop can be extremely dangerous.
I think people tend to really underestimate how bad withdrawal from alcohol can be. I know of an otherwise fit and healthy 25 year old who died from just stopping drinking without any medical advice so I think to advise someone to do this on a forum when you are not medically qualified is reckless. If you think you need to Op, go and see your Gp.
