To wake up DH at 4.50am because my toe hurts

Blame my irrational self absorbed post on ibruprofen not being strong enough

DH sat on my toe and bent it backwards when he climbed over me at 9pm last night. Iv had no sleep. I think he broke it

Do hospitals do anything for big toes? Can't imagine they can do more than prescribe painkillers? I have strong ones in the med cabinet but walking bloody hurts and will wake DD who will then expect to watch peppa pig and I fucking hate Peppa even without a painful toe if I go get them

YANBU. It's sat tomorrow so presumably he doesn't have to work and anyway I'm sure he'd be mortified that he caused you pain.

Hi, yes the do treat big toes- just not the others. Is there a minor injuries unit near you? Might be less of a wait there.

I broke a toe years ago (not my big toe) and it still hurts from time to time and I do wonder whether I should have had it seen to properly at the time.

How about phoning NHS Direct to see if the hospital can do anything beyond some decent painkillers?

I think there's one attatched to my local hospital at the moment, out of interest- what will they do?!

He will be mortified and prob insist I go get it checked out- but I really want to sleep instead.

Think il wake him and send him up for the co-codomol and let him deal with peppa and DD. He's not working today (tho he has done 5am starts and 7pm finishes all week doing crazy overtime so I do feel bad) DD would sleep till 8/9 if she didn't hear anyone moving about

But since they swapped to 111 I rang twice for DS, at the start of the calls I just suspected a vomiting bug- by the end I was speeding to hospital panicked he had meningitis was totally freaked out by the questions they asked, in hindsight probably just a verbatim checklist

But you know... Kinda suspect with this sleep deprivation I could be easily persuaded my toe will need amputating or something by 111

i doubt minor injuries woudl be open at this time, can you google, have an ibuprofen and go when it does open

Well no times listed on google- just a number to call and leave a message for them to call back... Right 5.40 is far more reasonable than 4.50, I'm waking him!

Yanbu if you wake DH - presumably you promised to be there for eachother in sickness and in health during your wedding vows, and this is one of those occasions :)

When I broke my big toe they gave me a little moon boot to walk on, like the photo, till it healed.

Is there any chance it could be dislocated, rather than broken? I did that once, really thought it was broken as it was very painful and swollen. I did it by coming in the French windows in a hurry, banging my foot on the way. I was about to make a doctor's appointment when it popped back in (unintentionally on my part - I'd knelt down to fill a low cupboard and it must have just flexed/twisted the foot the right way). Didn't give me any more trouble after that.

If it's your big toe I'd def get it checked out, I had my foot in plaster for 3 weeks when I fractured my big toe

111 will send you to out if hours dr (May be minor injuries unit if they take that role). I have broken 3 toes on my left foot. 2 on one occasion and the one beside big toe this year. The dr looked at it, sent me for x-Ray, said 'yes you have fractured the bone.' He offered to strap it up but it doesn't matter if you get it strapped or not. I thought about it and just went home the way I was as the strapping might prevent shoes going on and I'd have to remove it next morning for a shower anyway. That was 3 months ago and I still get twinges now.

It's still painful and swollen but I'm coping. DH has taken kids out to nannys so I'm drugged up and planning Xmas MN Xmas thread started me off

I'm undecided on going to the hospital, hoping foot up, and painkillers will prevent needing to go -a day in bed with DH doing everything is bliss, don't want it to end

DS broke his big toe (when he kicked a rock instead of his football and was given crutches for a week and strong paracetamol.
DH however discovered by chance (an x-ray for something else) that he'd broken a toe years earlier and not treated it. The GP has told him he's going to get terrible osteoarthritis in said toe and that he should never ignore even the smallest if injuries!

Yes, definitely get it treated. I've got osteoarthritis in my left big toe that's really quite painful & gradually getting worse. My toe curves upwards like a banana so it's also difficult to get shoes that fit & are comfortable.

My GP suggested it had been broken in the past, & x-rays backed that up. I did injure it years ago - dropped something on it & bruised it badly - but never got it looked at. Wish I had!
