To wonder whether people actually read through some threads?

Occasionally we get threads that go on for ages which consist of, sometimes, hundreds of posts of people giving information about their daily routines, their shopping habits, their washing habits, their laundry arrangements, their rubbish collection arrangements, their local areas etc etc. Does anyone ever solemnly sit down and read through every post on such threads?

This isn't a criticism, I suspect I may well have joined in, but it did occur to me recently when thinking of contributing to such a thread that it probably wasn't worth the effort because no-one would ever read my scintillating contribution in amongst all the others.

It depends - if it's a humorous thread, then yes I probably will put myself to the bother of reading it all - but if it's a question by the OP that's being answered, then probably not, I'll just read all the OP's posts and a few around them.

I had exactly the same thought the other day OP. It stopped me posting on a thread...

I'm with Thumbwitch, I read the OP's posts but very little of the rest of it.

I think it was revealing in the recent mobile site upgrade how many people wanted to see several threads at a time so they could skim read them.

You mean the whats for dinner/what can you see right now/what's your shoe size threads?

Yeah, nobody reads through them. I think it's just about feeling like you're chatting with a group or part of things or something, which is fine.

I very rarely post on threads with hundreds of posts. Fascinating though I am, I'm unlikely add anything that hasn't been said 300 posts in.

I also limit posting on threads with entrenched positions - waste of energy. If I feel myself getting into a tit for tat with another poster I tend to withdraw.

I haven't read the thread, but I think you should definitely have one basket for whites and one for colours.

It depends. I can't be arsed with something like the how long does it take you to shower thread, but I might skimread.

If it's really funny I'll read it all or most of it.

Quite often for a very long thread (e.g. parking/bridezillas etc) I'll read the OP's posts and skim the rest, because they're usually full of repetition.

It depends on the thread on some I'll skim read and pause on more interesting looking posts, on others I'll read the OP and first and last responses. On certain threads which I find interesting like the 'woo' threads, some controversial threads like recently the formula feeding thread and the girl with the Uzi thread I read all the posts.

I avoid threads like "What is your bedtime routine" because it will be just as you describe. NO discussion....just people putting their thoughts down!
