Re. the islanders of Colonsay causing their water system to shut down...

...for the ice bucket challenge.

According to the papers, so much water was being drawn off that the water system kept shutting down (it does this automatically, to prevent wastage), and engineers had to go out to Colonsay five times over the weekend, to reset it.

Did they not realise that the blue-grey crinkly stuff that surrounds their ISLAND is called the sea, and it is made of water? And given that they live on an island off the north coast of Scotland, the water that surrounds their island is going to be permanently icy cold?

So why didn't they just mosey down to the beach and dip a bucket into the sea? Why, when you know you live on an island with a dodgy water system do you think, 'Yes, it will be a fine idea to draw off gallons of water to dump over my loved ones' heads - what problems could that possibly cause?'

AIBU to find that a bit stupid?

I read that story and assumed it was made up.

Nope. It's very silly.

Matt Damon has just done his with water from his toilet. To save water and to make the point that water from the loo in the US is much more clean than most people's drinking water.

and you get to see matt damon all wet

Bit preachy but a good point to make.

I suggest the MN fear of all things toilet germy will mean it won't catch on here though!

And awful lot of stupid with regard to the ice bucket challenge. An awful lot of stupid.

Saw a video yesterday of a guy dress in flippers, snorkel and what looked like a banana costume. A large dustbin of water. A ladder against the wall. He went up the ladder a few steps and launched himself into the bin. He obv meant to fall over but could as easily have broken his neck. Bloody idiot.

YANBU, but I would go even further that the whole ice bucket 'challenge' is a whole lot of a bit stupid.
Just donate to charity, people, no need to get wet and cold and shut down the water system. I don't get it, I really don't.

I just saw a video on FB, with a lady sitting bareback on a horse, and dumping a bucket of cold water over herself. Unsurprisingly the horse is startled, bolts, and she falls off.

Sometimes I despair.
