I have named changed as this would out me.

My DC both go to the nearest school to the Celtic Manor, they both have Friday off as an inset day. What I am worried about is the Thursday where the school is closed earlier.

I am just scared something will happen.

I know the daily mail is not alway accurate but the though of a terrorist attack so near DC is scaring me.

I don't say this to ridicule your fears but honestly, you just can't lead your life in fear of terrorist attacks. Especially ones reported by rabble-rousing rags like the Daily Mail. Terrorists are far more likely to strike at unready targets. Not NATO summits which have the highest level of security thrown at them.

I live in a city which is a bit of a target for terror groups (lots of bomb scares as I was growing up, now on alert a lot of the time from newer groups) and actually I feel safer knowing that there is a lot of security around because of this. The school and police etc will not put your children in any danger, I promise.

It is so scary.

It don't help that people are saying about protesters and with all the road closures.

Keep em off. You won't be the only one. I would.

The extra tight security will be aimed at the world leaders, they will be the protected ones....

I live about as far away from the castle as the school is from Celtic Manor and wasn't planning to evacuate.

Seriously, I don't think there is anything a terroist could do to attack Celtic Manor and get the school short of a nuclear weapon and in that case, most of Newport would be in trouble.

Flexibilityisquay · 28/08/2014 11:30

Have you actually read that article? It says that there is no intelligence that an attack is planned. Of course it could be a target, which is why the security is going to be so tight.

I can understand why you would be worried. I think your DC will probably be at no more risk than they would normally though as everyone will be hyper alert for signs of trouble.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 28/08/2014 11:56

I really don't think you need to worry. If there was a serious terrorist attack I'd expect all of Newport to be wiped out, that's not going to happen. I really don't think protestors and road closures are scary, they're an annoyance.
