to be upset with John Lewis pricing?

My future buggy of choice has gone up in price from £278 to £399 in the last week.

The bastards! Darn them all!

And to think, I wanted to buy it last week but thought I better wait until sooner thetime. Sad

Has this happened to anyone else?

Is JL the only place you can buy this buggy? Tbh I find them overpriced for pretty much everything and can normally find the same products elsewhere but cheaper. Only thing JL is good for is having a look and feel of things before I buy them.

brownie31 · 25/08/2014 13:00

They do a price match policy if you can find it cheaper elsewhere, it does have restrictions though. Agree they're not always the cheapest either, I recently bought a new buggy for £150 cheaper than JL were selling it at.

HamishBamish · 25/08/2014 13:00

Don't they have some kind of price match promise? Not sure how it works, but it may be worth looking into.

Lonecatwithkitten · 25/08/2014 13:09

Price match is the way I go. On line send them the standard com on the website, in store they will phone the other store.

honeysucklejasmine · 25/08/2014 13:13

Problem is that it was the cheapest place, now its the same as everywhere else. Sad

I've got time... Maybe it'll go down again!

Their price match always works for me - send them a link to the cheapest price you can find on the web. Easy!

honeysucklejasmine · 25/08/2014 13:13

Where did everyone buy theirs?

Because JL price match with everyone else on the high street, the prices can go up and down (ie. if Debenhams lowers a price, JL will lower their price to match it).. JL will only price match actual shops, not internet sites - so not Amazon. And the shop has to be within a certain radius of a JL store (I think 50 miles but don't quote me on that).

If you see the pushchair cheaper elsewhere (that fits the criteria) you can just request the cheaper price at the till in JL and they will generally match it there and then Smile

Cabrinha · 25/08/2014 13:18

YABU!
So you are complaining that they had a genuine sale price? genuine in that it was really lower than competitors.

I have every sympathy that you missed out though!

A lot of manufacturers cycle their sale price (sales are generally funded by the manufacture not the retailer, though I know nothing aboy prams) through different outlets, so keep checking all the other main pram places for this pram.

Have you tried going into store and saying that you waited til this week and now it's gone up, and could they still do it? They can only say no, and JL strikes me as one of the few places that might agree.

Sallyingforth · 25/08/2014 13:30

Yes I should have said above it has to be a link to a street shop's website, not an on-line store.

Lonecatwithkitten · 25/08/2014 13:44

Rose online JL will price match with other online retailers I did it only a few weeks ago. You can of course then click and collect and get it from the store or Waitrose.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 25/08/2014 15:03

If you see it somewhere else, why not just buy it from there. Save all the faffing about hoping they will honour the price match Confused.

honeysucklejasmine · 25/08/2014 16:10

I guess JL might have a better approach to customer service and refunds? That's why I'd use them in preference. Depends on what the other source is! :-)

OP posts:
Felyne · 25/08/2014 16:50

This might just be the fortnight (or whatever the length of time is that things have to be at 'full price' in order for the discounted price to be genuine) for that item? It may well come down again in the future.

RumAppleGinger · 25/08/2014 16:55

Don't despair, is it possible that they have increased the price for say 28 days so they can stick a big sale sticker on it in a month's time?

honeysucklejasmine · 25/08/2014 16:56

I hope so Felyne. I really like it. I actually stopped a woman in a shop the other day to compliment her buggy (different print to the one i want, but still beautiful) and she said they had got a good discount on it because the print hadn't been selling well.

Maybe the price is up because others want it now? Sad Oh well, at least I'd know it wasn't cheap because people thought it was ugly! Wink

MaryWestmacott · 25/08/2014 16:58

It's likely it was on pricematch last week if it's now the same price as everyone else. If you've got time, just hold out, if someone else has a sale, they'll drop their price too (and if they are the same price as elsewhere, go with them, their after service care of fixing buggies is great)

Madaboutthrows · 25/08/2014 19:20

Yay to John Lewis price matching but be aware that it doesn't include deals where codes have to be entered in order to get the lowest price.
