I rarely go on fb, but just saw a cousin has posted a pic of a pollywog with a rude message. Just told her exactly what I think.
Question is whether to block her before the fall out!!!

Am so furious.

What's the background. What on earth possessed her to post it?

puntasticusername · 18/08/2014 21:12

What's the message?

BeyondTheSea · 18/08/2014 21:12

No idea but quite frankly don't want to be associated with her.
It was a pollywogs are part of the british culture and we are not being told by the pc brigade that we can't have them.
Just astoundingly ignorant.

Ah, ok. Yes, sounds rather stupid but not actually setting out to be hurtful?

BeyondTheSea · 18/08/2014 21:18

We have quite a few mixed race family members, so I think it is hurtful and just stupid and awful and so uneducated.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 18/08/2014 21:19

They aren't even British. She's an idiot and a racist

BeyondTheSea · 18/08/2014 21:23

I am just so mad.
The awful thing is, I bet loads of people leap to her defence.

I have a teddy gollywog. It was my grandfathers, I still have it, will probably be DS's one day too.

Doesn't make me a racist.

BeyondTheSea · 18/08/2014 21:28

I know I'm being a drama queen but just sent her a message saying I don't want to see such uneducated bile and that I am blocking her.

Deep breath. Thanks for tolerating my rant!

What was the message?

BeyondTheSea · 18/08/2014 21:42

Do you know, it was a stupid message but she often makes remarks about immigrants and benefits, jobs etc with all her friends agreeing. She maid me back, saying she respects my decision to unfriend her... i have suggested she read about the connotations to see why people find it so hurtful.

OP posts:
zeezeek · 18/08/2014 21:47

And maybe not read the Daily Mail so often! TBH she sounds like my parents. They rant endlessly about immigration, whilst totally forgetting that without it they would not have grandchildren (my DH is Swedish and my SIL is Polish); that they are actually migrant stock themselves - DF family are Scottish and DM Irish....some people just can't, for whatever reason, see beyond their own bigotry.
