When is it ok to paint a 2 yr olds finger nails?

My 2 and a half year old daughter keeps asking me to paint her nails having seen mine painted. My gut says she is too young but there are lots of little girls at her playgroup the same age who have theres done.

Is there any harm in it?

My only concern would be her putting her fingers in her mouth before they dry.

Otherwise, go for it. It'll be a fun mother-daughter bonding time.

Well according to my then 9 year old it is acceptable to pain the babys nails when she is 6 months old Luckily it was non toxic kids stuff!

I wouldnt worry too much, just do it at the weekend, it wont turn her into a teenager. Girls just want to be like mummy, make the most of it!

I think it's more forcing girls to have painted nails. If a kid wants to do something, and it's harmless, why not?

Agree just use non toxic kids nail varnish. It peels off abit like craft glue almost as soon as its dry anyway. Iv used it on dd1 when she's watched me do mine a few times and no problems, although I have had a few judgey looks when out and about probobly mnetters

I paint DDs (3) with my nail varnish, but I just leave it to peel off/grow out rather than using nasty remover. I don't do her thumbs because she sucks them.

DDs fingers are Chanel pink fizz at the moment and her toes are collection 2000 gold glitter

dd2 has glitter polish on hers and dd1 (who is nearly 8) has purple. All part of the school holidays here

Honestly it's not something I LIKE the look of - but I did want painted nails myself when I was small (hate nail polish now!) as I just thought the colours were pretty

I have a nail salon and I cant get insurance for under 8 year olds so thats my limit :)

It's depressing how people over think such harmless things. it's only a bit of fun.

I first painted DDs nails when she was about 18 months. I was painting mine for a wedding we were going to and she shoved her foot in my face and pointed at the nail varnish.

I paint both my DDs nails for parties if they ask. I don't see the problem with it tbh unless its on an 8 week old baby, then I do judge a bit.

I am forced paint my 20month old ds' nails.

I don't know anyone in RL who won't let their DD have their nails painted. Mine likes a combo of blue, pink and gold. I'm trying to steer her away from my Dior.

It is the only way I can get dd 2.5 to sit still for 5 minutes. She was fascinated when she saw me doing mine, and asked me to do hers, so i did, but told her she had to stay very still for 5 full minutes. The only thing that has ever worked...

we have some Boots peel-off stuff especially for kids. I've just done the 7yo and the 3yo.

My 2 year old dds is necer without painted finger nails and toe nails, she's even had home french manicure, she absolutely loves getting them done and theres no harm in it imo.

I also leave to peel of, usually in the bath instead of using nail polish remover.

I can't think of a sensible reason not to like it but I don't.

Mind you, I am probably scarred by my dad making me scrape clear polish off my nails with the nail scissors when I was 12! I'd been at a friend's house painting boiled eggs with her mum's nail varnish for Easter and the temptation was too much, although I knew not to risk anything more than clear. I was far too young apparently and no intelligent woman would want their nails painted, waste time and money doing such a pointless thing in any case. My Dad was a bit of a women's libber but didn't always get it quite right.

I tried painting my 3yo's toes (after he asked) with nail polish but he couldn't leave them alone and they just ended up looking smeared and messy. So I came up with the paint idea. It dries quicker too.
