To be uncomfortable with this groupon

Just got todays groupon email through and this is the offer. An online diploma in child counselling for £49. 800+ bought so far.

I just think its such a sensitive area surely there shouldn't be 800 randoms floating round with a "diploma" bought from groupon in this?

It won't be accredited and would be useless for those wanting a job in that area Wink

Maybe people are using it to boost their application onto a proper course to show their commitment. Or as a taster to see if it is an area they would enjoy pursuing further. Or parents looking to further their communication skills?

jacks365 · 17/08/2014 14:14

I saw it and assumed it was more aimed at parents talking to their own children.

AtSea1979 · 17/08/2014 14:16

I saw it and wondered if I would find it useful when dealing with my own kids.

softlysoftly · 17/08/2014 14:19

Ok so they can't actually use the armchair psychology diploma to try and counsel kids with issues?

Good!

Well they can, anyone can set themselves up as a counsellor - there's no regulation and the onus is on the client to check out quals.

As a counsellor I would purchase that course to add it to my Cpd, as a counsellor I need to do 30 hours a years Cpd.

ilovesooty · 17/08/2014 15:15

As a counsellor I wouldn't touch a course like this for my CPD. I'd pay for something with credibility that I could actually use in my business. I don't do any CPD that I couldn't verify, advertise and use. Doing it out of interest is one thing but I don't think it should count towards CPD.

For Bacp even reading books , reflecting, incorporating as part of good practise is fine for Cpd.

The point is to constantly reflect, there's way too many fake therapists who do nothing.
