To not go out tonight?

Help! I'm supposed to be going out with work colleagues, straight from work, this evening for a leaving meal.

I'll be getting there a bit late due to a childcare thing.

Thing is, I suddenly don't want to go. I'm having a really full-on, very busy week and I'm a bit stressed anyway, but the thought of an evening of forced joviality is making my legs shake.

I'm very much 'life and soul' in the office but it's a mask - I'm secretly being treated for depression (or will be very soon).

I had to pre-order my meal a week ago (not paid for yet).

WIBU to think up some excuse and not go?

Of course not. Have a rest.

WorraLiberty · 14/08/2014 17:02

If you really don't want to go and you think it won't make much difference to your colleagues, then don't go.

Just make sure you pay for your meal so no-one else is out of pocket.

Thurlow · 14/08/2014 17:04

Yeah. White lie time. Childcare thing has turned into a problem and you have to stay at home. Such a shame as you were looking forward to it so much.

CulturalBear · 14/08/2014 17:10

It would be a shame not to see the leaver, but it's a sit-down meal and a lot of people 15+ are going so I probably wouldn't get a chance to speak to them in much detail anyway.

It might cheer you up.

sugaryonthesurface · 14/08/2014 19:22

Is it your leaving do???

amyhamster · 14/08/2014 19:25

Sometimes making yourself do things makes you feel better

If you know 100% you won't regret it then don't go

I have to make myself go to social things because I get panicky
No one knows though
Apart from long suffering dh

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 14/08/2014 19:30

Go, you're panicking and hate the thought of socialising.

You'll enjoy the night out Smile

Jackie0 · 14/08/2014 19:36

Nah fuck it, when you're suffering with depression you really do have to put yourself first. Make an excuse, they won't care anyway. Have a nice relaxing night in guilt free.

I threw a baby is sickie in the end. If it wasn't for the baby factor I probably would have been able to summon up the energy.

Thanks for the input - I have two big social events this weekend which I can't get out of so will at least have more brave reserves stockpiled for that now :)
