To not go out tonight?

Help! I'm supposed to be going out with work colleagues, straight from work, this evening for a leaving meal.

I'll be getting there a bit late due to a childcare thing.

Thing is, I suddenly don't want to go. I'm having a really full-on, very busy week and I'm a bit stressed anyway, but the thought of an evening of forced joviality is making my legs shake.

I'm very much 'life and soul' in the office but it's a mask - I'm secretly being treated for depression (or will be very soon).

I had to pre-order my meal a week ago (not paid for yet).

WIBU to think up some excuse and not go?

If you really don't want to go and you think it won't make much difference to your colleagues, then don't go.

Just make sure you pay for your meal so no-one else is out of pocket.

Yeah. White lie time. Childcare thing has turned into a problem and you have to stay at home. Such a shame as you were looking forward to it so much.

It would be a shame not to see the leaver, but it's a sit-down meal and a lot of people 15+ are going so I probably wouldn't get a chance to speak to them in much detail anyway.

Sometimes making yourself do things makes you feel better

If you know 100% you won't regret it then don't go

I have to make myself go to social things because I get panicky
No one knows though

Nah fuck it, when you're suffering with depression you really do have to put yourself first. Make an excuse, they won't care anyway. Have a nice relaxing night in guilt free.

I threw a baby is sickie in the end. If it wasn't for the baby factor I probably would have been able to summon up the energy.

Thanks for the input - I have two big social events this weekend which I can't get out of so will at least have more brave reserves stockpiled for that now :)
