Conjunctivitis sucks!

Posting here for traffic - sorry.

DD had conunctivitis start of last week. Doc prescribed her the ointment (what a fucker that is to put in!) and it cleared up. We stopped using it on Monday evening, her eyes were pretty much back to normal. She's got up this morning and the originally infected eye is very bloodshot - it's coming back again isn't it Sad I don't have any of the ointment left as I thought it was away so binned it - back to the docs?

Sodium cromiglicate is for allergy, so if it is that, there is no reason for her to be off school as obviously not catchable.

Her history of a red, watery eye that clears up when you put in any kind of drop, suggests that she might just have a dry eye. This can cause an eye to look quite inflamed and the watering is reflex tearing.

Try also preservative free lubricants. You can buy them over the counter at chemists or opticians or ask your GP for Hylo-tears. Also check her eyelids are fully closed when she sleeps. If they are partially open the surface will dry out, in which base you need to insert a lubricating ointment before bed and or tape her eyelids down.

If it doesn't clear, get a re-referral to the cornea / anterior segment clinic, where you will generally see the cornea consultant or their registrar and get a more accurate diagnosis. I suspect last time you went you probably saw a general doctor in a general clinic. Diagnosis can be a bit hit and miss there.

meltedmonterayjack the yellow dye stuff that made your eyes feel instantly better probably was a local anaesthetic / dye combo... that's why they felt instantly better !

cleared this morning completely. apart from a little bit of crusty but literally just in the middle of her eye. have given a drop anyway and used tea bags to clean the eye; they look completely normal now!

Sorry - eyed have been completely normal until this conjunctivitis case; Dr said eyes completely normal/healthy yesterday apart from the red but I get what you are saying about seeing a specialist Smile I will keep it in mind if I do have to take her back, but fx I wont! Smile
