To take a few more days off work?

I was ill last week and collapsed at work in horrendous pain. Ended up in an ambulance to hospital - all very embarrassing.

I won't go into the ins and outs of it all but today is the first day I've started to feel more myself. I've been out of hospital since Thursday and apart from feeling tired. The pain has more or less subsided.

My question! I've already had three days off work. WIBU to take another couple? I've got to see my doctor first thing thing tomorrow but the decision is mine I suppose.

Is feeling washed out a good enough reason?

I'm bracing myself!

If you are not feeling better, don't go back. Rest until you are fully recovered.
Hope you feel back to normal v soon Thanks

Take a few more days off to relax and get your energy back. Work will still be there when your feeling 100%, make the most of it

I think a week off work is reasonable. What was the diagnosis? Glad you're feeling better Smile

FelicityFoxton · 10/08/2014 19:50

That's the thing though - I think I feel ok! Just a little tired and drained. I work in a physical job too - as in, I never sit down and effectively walk miles during a shift!

Feel guilty at potentially being on the skive now I suppose. Although there could be no doubt as to how bad I was last week.

Diagnosis is of a gynaecological nature. Ugh! Had sudden massive pain in my lower side and counted at at work and then just could hardly breathe with pain.

Speak to your doctor. Tell them that while your immediate pain has subsided you still dont feel fully recovered. Im sure after being hospitalised a period of recovery is a recognised need. I imagine your doctor will give you a sick note for a week or two

Vomited - not counted

Going back to work before you are ready means a possible relapse. You need to feel well again first. Otherwise you'll probably end up off again. Hope you feel better soon

You definitely should have another few days off work, if energy levels are low and your feeling washed out you need to boost yourself back up.. X

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 10/08/2014 20:00

Wait until you're feeling better than "ok". Feeling ok sat at home and feeling ok while working are two entirely different things.

BlinkAndMiss · 10/08/2014 20:03

I don't think going back now would be a very good idea, as bakingaddict has pointed out I'm sure there is a recovery period which is expected after hospitalisation. Did you have any surgery? If so then I definitely think you need to get a sick note. IME I'd make sure I had at least one day where I felt totally well before going back to work, that way you know you're recovered.

Feel better soon, any gynaecological issue is awful to deal with.

FelicityFoxton · 10/08/2014 20:07

Thanks all.

No I didn't have surgery. Scans and blood tests . On top of this I also have a UTI. So been feeling pretty rubbish all in all.

I've just felt anxious to go back tomorrow and then suddenly thought ' hmm, I could actually take a few more days and maybe go back Wednesday or Thursday '

And then felt guilty !

I always take an extra day when I've been proper ill, as feeling better when doing very little is totally different to feeling better when doing a demanding work shift.
