I am sick of this house being a total tip, due to a recent op I can't get out much so we are very limited on activities and due to the op my house is a shambles.

No other adults around? Or older children?

ICanSeeTheSun · 09/08/2014 19:51

The only friend I can ask is 36 week pregnant and would only ask in a dire emergency.

I feel for you. I have had an awful 1st trimester, still feeling crappy, my house was a mess and still is, now we've got builders in sorting the crappy loft extension. Some days we haven't got dressed. I'm just kind of going with it Smile.

deakymom · 09/08/2014 22:17

we have done pretty much nothing too my husband has just started a new job and they are piling on the hours including a 16 hour shift yesterday Sad he is the only one who drives the weather is either scorching which means we can't go to the parks as they are too hot (serious sun traps until after bedtime) or wet i suppose i could take them on the bus somewhere but dh is getting paranoid he is not part of the family anymore and every time i plan something so he can sleep during the day he gets up joins us and cranks at us because he is tired seriously cant wait till september comes my poor children

ICanSeeTheSun · 09/08/2014 22:19

I am just exchusted, DS is so out of routine he is not going to sleep till 1:00ish and has gone back to bed wetting and loads of meltdowns as well.

I think from a child's and parents POV is that the summer holidays are too long.

I do think it's needed from a teachers pov as there is lots of planning and they need to rest.

OP posts:
Armi · 09/08/2014 22:24

I'm a teacher. Being at work is easier than being at home with a toddler for six weeks. Cancel the holidays, I've had enough!

cleanasawhistle · 09/08/2014 22:26

Tomorrow is day 26 of the school hols which is half way.

gamerchick · 09/08/2014 22:26

I can't wait either.. no matter how much me and the husband try we just can't satisfy and sedate my 7 yr olds brain. My brain simply isn't big enough, he hits the ground running with constant questions and discussions and stops when he goes to bed... I'm knackered as well as ill with some virus that makes your skin hurt!

The husbands gone night fishing so he can unwind from it all Grin

Hope those who are poorly are on the mend soon.

Hope

I wish the LEA would transfer DS funding from his statement to a play scheme.

I feel for you.
But i love the holidays. Ds is just at nursery school and i have a week off next week and i cant wait to have that time with them. Its been an expensive month Grin (thank you lovely childminder) but no uniform, no tearing around meeting the increasing demands of nursery timings/ homework, bla, bla, bla.
Love it. Dreading the return tbh.

Maybe when they're older and at proper school and lolling about ill feel differently. Grin

AgentZigzag · 09/08/2014 22:31

But you should be enjoying your children OP Wink

What's up with you eh?

Have you only got the one? How old are they? I found it harder when DD1 was an only because she only had me to endlessly talk at entertain her as a default position.

Not going to bed until 1am doesn't sound too good though, (what time is he getting up in the morning?) it's important for you to have a couple of hours off in the evening too.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 09/08/2014 22:31

Poor thing. Sorry its so hard.
Yes, transferring those funds for holiday time would be great.

Ds is 8 and DD is 5.

He is then up at 6ish, normally really enjoy my time off with them as I am normally in work.

Could you call on any of his friend's parents to take him out? I love the hols too but even so, find my patience wearing thin with the constant calls of "mum'.

*cleanasawhistle' where are you?! We have had just over two weeks here.

I can't wait either. I love my DCs but I'm studying with the OU and when they're at home all day I get no chance to study till 9 pm when I'm shattered from entertaining/refereeing them all day.

AgentZigzag · 09/08/2014 22:43

Bloody hell, only 5 hours off, where you've got to get some kip in yourself, is torture.

How do your DS/DD get on? Can you draw up some plans in advance of things you think they might do nicely together, even if it's for a short while.

Even just a few moments to yourself can recharge your batteries a bit so you're ready for the next onslaught of questions/tantrums.

Petallic · 09/08/2014 22:44

This is doing the rounds on my Facebook at the mo

how parents feel when the kids go back to school

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 09/08/2014 22:47

I have had a wonderful time this holiday thanks to (finally) working out the right timing of time off/time away/having a good network of people to help out (we moved a couple of years ago). But that doesn't take away from the fact that the holidays are too long!

I really think 3 terms with a month off between each one would be better all round - more like university semesters.

I hope you're better soon op.

AgentZigzag · 09/08/2014 22:52

I always thought this advert summed it up nicely.

ICanSeeTheSun · 09/08/2014 22:53

They can be fine together.

Roll on September 1st, some me time :)
