Disneyland/Orlando = Awful

YellowTulips · 08/08/2014 23:29

Just got back from 2 weeks in Orlando.

I know I am a miserable bugger but I HATED it.

Hot humid weather, stupidly high fees to enter the parks (legoland was especially shit).

Kids loved it, but I surely can't be the only person who disliked it ......

OP posts:
itiswhatitiswhatitis · 08/08/2014 23:33

Sorry I loved it but there are plenty of Disney haters on MN who will make you feel better Grin

TheBloodManCometh · 08/08/2014 23:36

Should have gone at Oct half term - cheaper, cooler and less people. Bliss!

CripesItsTheGasMan · 08/08/2014 23:39

I went when I was 21...loved it sorry. But it was colder than normal when I went, so more tolerable .

puckingfixies · 08/08/2014 23:40

Sorry op, I fully expected to hate it - can't stand heat and my queueing is my idea of hell. We went one August and it was our best holiday ever.

kazza446 · 08/08/2014 23:44

I'm with you yellowtulips on this one. I was there 12 months ago. We had crap weather, rained every day. I wAs there with dh, kids and my dp's.found eating out abysmal, cheap fast food was only option. Hated it big style. I could cry just thinking about how much money we actually wasted On what was supposed to be a holiday of a lifetime. Kids obviously didn't rate it that much either as they compared it to a haven holiday break we had this year!!

CinderellaRockefeller · 08/08/2014 23:47

We went to Disneyland California a few weeks ago. Loved every minute of it :)

kaytola · 08/08/2014 23:47

I'm here in Orlando now. Been here nearly 3 weeks and I want to stay out here forever. The weather is beautiful, the people are friendly, seeing Mickey and Minnie everyday is priceless and the food is out of this world. You miserable chuffer Wink

gallopinghorse · 08/08/2014 23:50

sorry but what do you expect in the middle of summer in Florida?
Disney World is fab YABU

boys3 · 08/08/2014 23:53

went a very long time ago over New Year when a holiday to Thailand fell through and the travel agent had this as a literally last minute option. No DCs back then and DH and I, admittedly to our surprise, had a brilliant time, great weather high 70s / low 80s. The only thing we struggled with was the volume of abandoned wheelchairs when Epcot closed New Years Eve - must have been some of the Magic Kingdom rubbing off.

DCs (two of them at least) would love to go - would we go in the summer though knowing the climate and crowds? probably not.

Canyouforgiveher · 08/08/2014 23:53

July/August in Florida is the time when those who live there either wish they could get out of Florida or do get out of Florida.

We go to Florida every year (during the winter) and have never yet gone to Disney - doesn't tick any of our boxes. Our closest friends go to Disney twice a year - sometimes during the summer and love it. It is not for everyone but some people love it.

OP, what did you think it would be like?

scousadelic · 08/08/2014 23:58

We love Florida but don't like Disney there, its slogan might as well be 'Let us squeeze more money out of you'. Loved Universal and the other attractions but Disney just crossed a line for us

SecretWitch · 09/08/2014 00:01

Nobody in there right mind goes to Florida in August. We lived in Florida and left the state from July until September. Florida in the summer is wretched.

PhaedraIsMyName · 09/08/2014 00:06

We went many years ago , can't remember exactly when. You'd be hard pushed to find a greater Europhile snob than me and we all loved it.

PhaedraIsMyName · 09/08/2014 00:07

There's a lot more to Florida than Orlando and Disney.

GenerationX2 · 09/08/2014 00:13

OP I totally hear you - FL in July is terrible.

VonHerrBurton · 09/08/2014 00:13

We love it, only ever go in August since dc started school a decade ago. I love the weather, the people, the theme parks, the beautiful villa we go to and weirdly, the crowds... Ok, don't love the crowds but they're an unavoidable part of Florida in August.

The food is, quite frankly, shit in Orlando in general, you're right.

Whilst we love it I totally get why others would rather die - my sister and bil, for example, love to hire a gite/cottage in the middle of nowhere in France with one restaurant and a tiny 'super'market for miles around. Beach a 40 min drive and that's it. They love to play Holiday Snob with us and try and get a rise by talking about tacky, chavvy, Benidorm US....We just smile and agree that yes, people are very different.

I know where their 6, 9 and 11 year old dc would rather be :)

flipflopsandcottonsocks · 09/08/2014 00:17

We went to Florida in August (3 years ago) for our honeymoon and loved everything about it! We're planning on going back for our 5th anniversary and take our DS (who will be 3.5yo), literally can't wait!

MorrisZapp · 09/08/2014 00:26

Ive been to Disneyland twice and loved it, but hated Orlando. The long strip (I Drive) is appalling and tacky. Florida is a tropical climate so weather can be v unpredictable.

We'll defo go to Disney when DS is old enough, but the California one. And we'll just do one day in Disney.

alemci · 09/08/2014 00:40

love Florida but not Orlando. gulf beaches much better imo and Busch gardens

Hulababy · 09/08/2014 00:46

I've just arrived today - chilling out in villa after a dip in the pool.
It's our sixth visit - love it.
Almost always come this time of year - yes, it's hot and humid bit bearable ime and there is tons of air conditioning.

Going to universal tomorrow for the new Harry potter rides.

freyaW2014 · 09/08/2014 00:50

I'm going for the first time in a week and am really looking forward to it! I hope it's fun..!

Tinkerball · 09/08/2014 01:00

Don't get why you would spend such a huge sum of money on this type of hiday if you knew you would hate it, what did you think it would be like ? Or are you one of these martyrs who spends thousands and justify it because "the kids will love it "? I would hate it so there's no way I'm taking my boys, it's my holiday to...which is why we went to California last year, now that was a holiday!!

bunnybing · 09/08/2014 01:11

Went last year in latter half of May and absolutely loved it. Didn't expect to (didn't particularly like Paris Disneyland) as am not really a rides person but I think there's something for everyone with waterparks, space centre etc.

WooWooOwl · 09/08/2014 01:39

I started reading this thread with interest as I absolutely love Orlando, but I've never been in August before and am thinking of it for next year, but all these posts are just confusing me about the weather! Some of you are saying it's great in August, some are saying it's shit.

Which is it? Does it rain loads in August?
