To think this end of term video is wrong on so many levels

Our local Free School has issued this video to celebrate the end of term:

here

Yes, I know it is meant to be lighthearted, but I find it so wrong. The scene when a building is blown up and people run for their lives is horribly reminiscent of what is going on in Gaza. The sharpening and wielding of knives is tasteless in the light of the recent stabbing of that poor teacher.
The merry emphasis on gang warfare and the creation of weapons from school equipment flies in the face of all the anti-violence messages and values OFSTED expects schools to promote.

It cannot have been cheap to produce. AIBU to think they should have put their energy and resources to better use?

The fact it made me cringe about 18 times is insult enough. Just why?

educationrocks1 · 29/07/2014 08:28

I only watched half of it. Quite frankly didn't get whatever message they were trying to get across (perhaps it becomes clear towards the end),, saying that, I think you're reading way too much into it. It's clearly a bunch of adults just goofing around, whatever the message was, it wasn't strong enough for me to make any parallels with Gaza etc.

I imagine they have worked really hard all year, and this was their way to let off some steam. I think they are allowed that.

Noodledoodledoo · 29/07/2014 08:29

It is completely misguided - although I will say it won't have cost anything other than someones time as most schools have the software for Media to create things like this pretty easily. Not saying its a good use of the resources but it won't have taken any funds except time.

My school tends to make News clips!

insancerre · 29/07/2014 08:33

I liked it.

cece · 29/07/2014 08:34

To me it is just a load of teachers letting off team; making a film that is a parody of other film. Bit boring tbh.

cece · 29/07/2014 08:34

steam not team.

frasersmummy · 29/07/2014 08:35

i dont understand it.. I assume its meant to be a parody of lots of other films (most of which I have probably not seen)

but no it didnt make me think of gaza or the stabbed teacher

it just made me think this is rubbish

saintlyjimjams · 29/07/2014 08:39

It's using bits from other films isn't it? Even I recognised some of the references (and I am useless when it comes to film references!)

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 29/07/2014 08:43

I switched off at 2.54, it's bloody dull!

thornrose · 29/07/2014 08:46

It's soooo long! I imagine the children would have a laugh at seeing their teachers perform.

PhallicGiraffe · 29/07/2014 08:46

It's only a video, chill out. I thought it was funny parody. Someone's obviously had a lot of fun video editing. I'm sure those plastic swords and rulers aren't that dangerous.

GoblinLittleOwl · 29/07/2014 08:47

The Ofsted report of March 2014 is critical, states that the school 'requires improvement' and grades it overall as 3, 4 being the lowest grade.
Then the staff produce this video. Says it all.

Nerf · 29/07/2014 08:49

I don't get it. I couldn't work out the plot.

YoniMitchell · 29/07/2014 08:52

WTF is that all about?! How embarrassing if you're a student at that school!

It was more a cringe-fest (due to muddy plot and hammy acting) than anything else IMO.

HibiscusIsland · 29/07/2014 08:53

I watched some of it, but it was soo long so I gave up. What happened in the end?

Trickydecision · 29/07/2014 08:58

Exactly, Goblin.

Maybe I am a bit oversensitive about the weapons and gangs and should chill out, nevertheless the Head might have redirected the teachers' energies into improving their teaching. Mysteriously though the school 'requires improvement' the Head's leadership was said to be 'good'. I wonder exactly in which direction he was leading the teachers. Free School of course, lenient ride from Ofsted.

Hibiscus, nothing much, really, just more of the same.

I only made it half way through.

Yes OP all you have said so far plus

SEXISM

Men get to play with guns, mix chemicals, do maths and play at computers.

Women can ask for instructions, watch the men and can only be in scenes with men unless they are playing nurses giving very bad CPR.

Someone is playing out their own Tarantino fantasy.

Mrsjayy · 29/07/2014 09:03

Pretentious twaddle thats what it is

Longdistance · 29/07/2014 09:06

If they spent less time arsing about making this video, they could have put more effort into teaching, than dicking about Confused

Just weird...

Mrsjayy · 29/07/2014 09:09

Ibonlybgotvaclitt way In its so boring

Mrsjayy · 29/07/2014 09:09

Oh space bar Blush

AnnDaloozier · 29/07/2014 09:12

I'm a teacher. It's shit.

Whoever thought that was a good idea?

Notso · 29/07/2014 09:12

Maybe I am a bit over sensitive about the weapons and gangs and should chill out

I agree, it's hardly a remake of Kidulthood.

My daughters school is in special measures, they have done a stuffy old end of term letter reminding us to buy a load of uniform adhering to the policy they never enforce past September. I'd rather they at least tried to engage with the pupils like in the slightly cringy film than looked bored stiff like they usually do.

HughJazz · 29/07/2014 09:18

It's a free iPad app, my DH used to goof about making horror film trailers with footage of our baby Hmm

Doesn't excuse the crapness, but it wouldn't have taken any money or resources to produce. A cheap way of making the students laugh at the end of term.

Harmless! (Cringy)
